Glucagon-like peptide-1 agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have produced substantial weight loss effects in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) cohorts, but these effects have not been thoroughly studied in patients with obesity and without diabetes. This review aimed to analyze direct comparative studies for semaglutide versus other GLP-1 RA (liraglutide and efinopegdutide) in facilitating weight loss and evaluating adverse events in patients with obesity. A systematic search following the guidelines established by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) was performed in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library for direct comparative studies comparing semaglutide with other GLP-1 RA on weight loss in patients with obesity.

The healthcare sector, particularly operating rooms (ORs), generates significant waste, contributing to global environmental pollution. This scoping review aimed to assess global recycling practices in ORs across various surgical specialties, identifying key barriers and strategies for improvement. A comprehensive literature search using PubMed and Embase and PRISMA reporting guidelines yielded 35 studies for inclusion.

Background: Virtual reality (VR) technologies have demonstrated therapeutic usefulness across a variety of health care settings. However, graduate medical education (GME) trainee perspectives on VR acceptability and usability are limited. The behavioral intentions of GME trainees with regard to VR as an anxiolytic tool have not been characterized through a theoretical framework of technology adoption.

The finding of pupil-sparing third nerve palsy is synonymous with diabetic third nerve palsy in the minds of many clinicians. While this is the most common cause of a third nerve palsy with normal pupillary response, it is not the only cause. We present the case of an elderly diabetic gentleman who presented with pupil-sparing third nerve palsy and gait abnormalities without any weakness or incoordination in the extremities.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are at the forefront of treating the global health crisis of diabetes mellitus (DM) and obesity. However, the demand for GLP-1 RAs has far outstripped its supply and comes with a high monthly cost. Thus, the development of GLP-1 RA biosimilars can potentially address these barriers by providing greater access to medications that provide clinical outcomes similar to those of the reference products.

Background: Facial implants have emerged as pivotal tools for both reconstructive and aesthetic skull bone augmentation. Contemporary manufacturing techniques, such as computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) systems, have revolutionized facial implants production, providing the advantages of high-level individualization. However, the absence of standardized facial measurements complicates the ability to accurately compare outcomes across various techniques.

Background: Adolescents and young adults have the highest prevalence of e-cigarette use ("vaping"), but they are difficult to enroll in health research studies. Previous studies have found that video consent can improve comprehension and make informed consent procedures more accessible, but the videos in previous studies are much longer than videos on contemporary social media platforms that are popular among young people.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a short-form (90-second) video consent compared with a standard written consent for a vaping cessation study for adolescents and young adults.

Background: Nonconsent to pulmonary vascular (or advanced) imaging for suspected pulmonary embolism (PE) in pregnancy can delay diagnosis and treatment, increasing risk of adverse outcomes. We sought to understand factors associated with consent and understand outcomes after nonconsent.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study was undertaken across 21 community hospitals from October 1, 2021, through March 31, 2023.

The field of bone regeneration has primarily focused on investigating fracture healing and nonunion in isolated musculoskeletal injuries. Compared to isolated fractures, which frequently heal well, fractures in patients with multiple bodily injuries (polytrauma) may exhibit impaired healing. While some papers have reported the overall cytokine response to polytrauma conditions, significant gaps in our understanding remain in how fractures heal differently in polytrauma patients.

Background: Hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) offers numerous benefits over total hip replacements such as increased preservation of natural bone, improved range of motion, and lower dislocation risks. However, patient selection is crucial, with factors such as bone quality, activity level, and body mass index (BMI) playing significant roles. Obesity in particular poses challenges, potentially increasing mechanical load on the joint, complicating surgical techniques, and affecting both immediate and long-term outcomes.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Lifetime physiological or pathological events, such as vaginal delivery and menopause, may change vaginal structure and appearance, owing to local tissue expansion and separation of the pelvic floor muscles, which can affect a woman's sexual relationships. This systematic review was aimed at exploring the effect of vaginal tightening surgery on female sexual function.
Methods: Articles that had measured female sexual function after vaginal tightening were considered eligible.

Background: Preoperative localization of parathyroid adenomas aids surgical planning for patients with hyperparathyroidism. This study explores the diagnostic accuracy of surgeon-reviewed 4D computed tomography (4D CT) scans for localization of parathyroid adenomas.
Methods: A retrospective review of 95 patients with hyperparathyroidism who underwent parathyroidectomy at a tertiary care center was performed.

West Nile virus (WNV) is the most common mosquito-borne illness in the United States. Most cases remain asymptomatic or may be associated with a mild febrile illness; however, it can invade the central nervous system and cause meningoencephalitis, or rarely, acute flaccid paralysis (AFP). Here, we describe a case of WNV-associated paralysis in a previously healthy male presenting with asymmetric weakness and absent deep tendon reflexes.

Purpose: Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) is implicated in numerous retinal pathologies. A necessary step in developing new therapies, an area of significant interest, is a quantifiable assessment of posterior vitreous adhesion (PVA) that is also clinically relevant.
Methods: A 23-gauge vitrector was used at varying levels of vacuum to attempt PVD induction in a porcine eye model injected with either balanced salt solution (BSS) (control) or plasmin (2, 3, or 5 U), which can pharmacologically induce PVD.

Intradural spinal lipomas are rare benign lesions typically located in the lumbosacral region and associated with spinal dysraphism in children. When unassociated with spinal dysraphism, they are most often diagnosed in young children or adolescents following the emergence of neurological symptoms. In their most rare form, intradural spinal lipomas may be found in adults without spinal dysraphism.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is essential in the proper function of many essential cellular processes in the human body. The purpose of this review is to investigate the effect of nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), a NAD+ precursor, on physical performance and evaluate the safety profile of supplementation. A systematic review search criteria following the guidelines from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) was performed in four databases for randomized controlled trials on NMN supplementation.
