There are three FAM98 family proteins (FAM98A/B/C) in humans and mice. Their physiological functions remain largely unknown. We have previously reported that Fam98a interacts with Plekhm1 in murine osteoclasts and functions in lysosome trafficking/secretion and bone resorption in osteoclasts in vitro.

This study provides a detailed analysis of the community of hydrozoan epibionts of in La Paz Bay, Baja California Sur. The investigation was carried out in two season periods, corresponding to the warm and cold seasons on the pier of the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS) Pichilingue research station. The percentage of epibiont coverage was calculated and analyzed.

The aim of this study was to increase SICs and their documentation in patients with low one-year survival probability identified by updated Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) scores.

Liver ultrasound segmentation is challenging due to low image quality and variability. While deep learning (DL) models have been widely applied for medical segmentation, generic pre-configured models may not meet the specific requirements for targeted areas in liver ultrasound. This paper aims to build a predictive model that assesses how a healthy lifestyle affects different dimensions of perceived value (quality, social value, emotional value, and economic value) and how these dimensions impact the willingness to purchase healthy brands. A quantitative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 515 participants. A self-administered questionnaire was used, and the data were analyzed using the PLS-SEM method.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are crucial post-transcriptional regulators involved in inflammatory diseases, such as asthma. Poor lung function and airflow issues in childhood are linked to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adulthood.

Methods: We analyzed small RNA-Seq data from 365 peripheral whole blood samples from the Genetics of Asthma in Costa Rica Study (GACRS) for association with airflow levels measured by FEV1/FVC.

Iptacopan, a first-in-class complement factor B inhibitor acting proximally in the alternative complement pathway, has been shown to be safe and effective for patients with complement-mediated diseases. Iptacopan selectively binds with high affinity to factor B, a soluble, plasma-based, hepatically produced protein. Factor B is abundant in the circulation but can be saturated at the iptacopan clinical dose of 200 mg twice daily.

Pre-injury narcotic drug use in isolated severe traumatic brain injury: effect on outcomes.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the association between pre-injury narcotic drug use (opioids, methadone, and/or oxycodone) and outcomes in isolated severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients.

Methods: ACS TQIP study included adult trauma patients (≥ 16 years) with complete drug and alcohol screening. Isolated severe TBI was defined as head trauma with AIS 3-5 and without significant extracranial trauma.

Smoking plays an underappreciated role in breast cancer progression, increasing recurrence and mortality in patients. Here, we show that S100A8/A9 innate immune signaling is a molecular mechanism that identifies smoking-related breast cancers and underlies their enhanced malignancy. In contrast to acute exposure, chronic nicotine increased tumorigenicity and reprogrammed breast cancer cells to express innate immune response genes.

Dietary fiber content in clinical ketogenic diets modifies the gut microbiome and seizure resistance in mice.

The gut microbiome modulates the anti-seizure effects of the ketogenic diet, but how specific dietary formulations differentially modify the gut microbiome in ways that impact seizure outcome is poorly understood. We find that medical ketogenic infant formulas vary in macronutrient ratio, fat source, and fiber content and differentially promote resistance to 6-Hz seizures in mice. Dietary fiber, rather than fat ratio or source, drives substantial metagenomic shifts in a model human infant microbial community.

Here, we report an in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy study of Co and Co( ), and in-situ high energy surface X-ray diffraction of Co during the Fischer-Tropsch reaction at 0.15 bar - 1 bar and 406 K - 548 K in a H/CO gas mixture.

NKp46 enhances type 1 innate lymphoid cell proliferation and function and anti-acute myeloid leukemia activity.

NKp46 is a critical regulator of natural killer (NK) cell immunity, but its function in non-NK innate immune cells remains unclear. Here, we show that NKp46 is indispensable for expressing IL-2 receptor-α (IL-2Rα) by non-NK liver-resident type-1 innate lymphoid cells (ILC1s). Deletion of NKp46 reduces IL-2Rα on ILC1s by downregulating NF-κB signaling, thus impairing ILC1 proliferation and cytotoxicity in vitro and in vivo.
