Purpose: Estimating the prevalence and severity of asthma symptoms with standardized methods of population-based surveys is a critical step in reducing asthma burden. However, no sufficient surveys have been conducted in most countries of the Middle East especially at the national level. In this survey, we applied sound measures to estimate the prevalence and severity of asthma symptoms and related risk factors in adults in Saudi Arabia.

Role of topical vancomycin in reduction of postoperative infections in head trauma patients: A developing country experience.

Background: Postoperative cranial wound infections are a major cause of morbidity, mortality, and financial burden, especially in developing countries.

Methods: We prospectively studied 86 patients in a randomized trial; 39 patients received one gram of topical vancomycin powder in the subgaleal space while 47 matched control patients did not. Both groups received identical intraoperative and post-operative care.

Midodrine improves clinical and economic outcomes in patients with septic shock: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Background: Prolonged use of intravenous (IV) vasopressors in patients with septic shock can lead to deleterious effects.

Aims: This study assessed the impact of midodrine administration on weaning off IV vasopressors and its economic value.

Methods: It is a prospective randomized controlled study of 60 resuscitated patients with septic shock who demonstrated clinical stability on low-dose IV vasopressors for at least 24 h.

Determinative Structural Features Identified With Probe-based Confocal Endomicroscopy for the Accurate Diagnosis of Gallbladder Malignancy.

Background: Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) can visualize microscopic structures at high resolution but has not yet yielded definitive diagnostic features of gallbladder malignancy, as opposed to benign changes.

Patients And Methods: A total of 73 patients had their gallbladder evaluated with pCLE performed on resected benign and malignant gallbladder surgical specimens, which were sprayed with fluorescein. Malignant and benign features of pCLE findings were identified on the basis of Miami and Paris Classifications.

Acceptability of "High sn-2" Infant Formula in Non-Breast Fed Healthy Term Infants Regarding Gastrointestinal Tolerability by Both Parents and Pediatrician: An Open-Label Pilot Study in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries.

Recent studies have highlighted the positive impact of high sn-2 formulas on gastrointestinal (GI) tolerance. We assessed the GI tolerance, acceptability, and safety of high sn-2 infant formula among non-breastfed healthy term infants in the Gulf countries. A multicenter observational study was conducted on 227 healthy-term infants who were prescribed high sn-2 palmitate infant formula and received a minimum of two formula feedings per day for the past two weeks prior to the study's initiation.

Impact of ascorbic acid in reducing the incidence of vancomycin associated nephrotoxicity in critically ill patients: A preliminary randomized controlled trial.

Forty-one critically ill patients were randomly assigned to one of two groups: intervention group (vancomycin IV plus ascorbic acid, n=21) or control group (vancomycin IV only, n=20).

The Pelvic Floor Disorders Consortium (PFDC) is a multidisciplinary organization of colorectal surgeons, urogynecologists, urologists, gynecologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, physiotherapists, and other advanced care practitioners. Specialists from these fields are all dedicated to the diagnosis and management of patients with pelvic floor conditions, but they approach, evaluate, and treat such patients with their own unique perspectives given the differences in their respective training. The PFDC was formed to bridge gaps and enable collaboration between these specialties.

Fetal head descent assessed by transabdominal ultrasound: a prospective observational study.

Background: Determining fetal head descent, expressed as fetal head station and engagement is an essential part of monitoring progression in labor. Assessing fetal head station is based on the distal part of the fetal skull, whereas assessing engagement is based on the proximal part. Prerequisites for assisted vaginal birth are that the fetal head should be engaged and its lowermost part at or below the level of the ischial spines.

Acute Uveitis following COVID-19 Vaccination.

Purpose: To describe a case of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)-associated anterior uveitis after receiving the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.

Methods: A retrospective case report.

Results: An 18-year-old girl, with a history of antinuclear antibody positive oligoarticular JIA, presented with bilateral anterior uveitis 5 days after the second dose of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.

A juvenile dermatomyositis: demographics, characteristics and disease outcome in an Egyptian cohort.

Objectives: To study the demographics, characteristics, management and disease outcome of Egyptian children with juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM).

Methods: Retrospective analysis of the records of 134 JDM patients attending two centres in Cairo, Egypt from January 2010 to December 2019. A total of 128 patients were included in the study, all of which fulfilled either the Bohan and Peter criteria and/or the EULAR/ACR classification criteria of 2017.

Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS): observational case series findings on MR defecography.

Objective: Radiological findings in solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS) are well described for evacuation proctography (EP) but sparse for magnetic resonance defecography (MRD). In order to rectify this, we describe the spectrum of MRD findings in patients with histologically proven SRUS.

Materials And Methods: MRD from twenty-eight patients (18 female; 10 males) with histologically confirmed SRUS were identified.

Phlyctenular Keratoconjunctivitis in a Patient With COVID-19 Infection.

The coronavirus disease 2019 global pandemic is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Several ophthalmic manifestations have been reported to be associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, including conjunctivitis, acute sixth nerve palsy, and multiple cranial neuropathies. We present a unique case of unilateral phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis in a 5-year-old boy in the setting of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Efficacy of combined Sofosbuvir and Daclatasvir in the treatment of COVID-19 patients with pneumonia: a multicenter Egyptian study.

Background: Limited experimental and clinical evidence suggests a potential role for sofosbuvir/daclatasvir in treating COVID19. We aim to evaluate the efficacy of generic sofosbuvir/daclatasvir in treating COVID-19 patients with pneumonia.

Research Design And Methods: This multicenter prospective study involved 174 patients with COVID-19.

Outcomes and risk factors for death in patients with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia admitted to the intensive care units of an Egyptian University Hospital. A retrospective cohort study.

Background: The characteristics, outcomes, and risk factors for in-hospital death of critically ill intensive care unit (ICU) patients with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) have been described in patients from Europe, North America and China, but there are few data from COVID-19 patients in Middle Eastern countries.
