An international study of clinical, demographic, and competence-related determinants of communication with professionals.

Purpose: This study aims to identify a combination of clinical, demographic, and patient competence determinants of patients' communication with doctors and nurses in an international sample of cancer patients.

Methods: For our cross-sectional study, cancer patients assessed their communication with their doctors or nurses at the start of their treatment. Patients completed EORTC communication questionnaire QLQ-COMU26 to assess ten areas of communication with their doctor or nurses plus another item to assess how competent they felt when communicating with professionals.

Development of Cancer Care in Northeast India.

Northeast India, a region of geographic, cultural, and ethnic diversity comprises of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim. Geographically, two-thirds of the area is hilly terrain. The North Eastern Region (NER) shows marked diversity in customs, cultures, cuisines, traditions, and languages.

Unlabelled: Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) is one of the leading cancers in India's north-eastern (NE) region affecting a section of the population each year. A proportion of the NPC cases are observed to recur even after therapy, indicating the involvement of other factors. We aimed to explore the NPC and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) burden in the NE region and investigate the prognostic factors for the NPC patients' poor survival and recurrence.

Lyophilised Amniotic Membrane in Intraoral Surgical Defects: A Prospective Clinical Study.

Introduction: The incidence of infection and scarring in intraoral raw wounds are decreased when wounds are grafted with biological materials. The favourable results of many studies about amniotic membrane in wound healing inspired us to investigate the effects of lyophilised amniotic membrane in intaoral surgical defects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the healing of oral mucosal defects after application of lyophilised amniotic membrane (AM).

Impact of COVID-19 on cancer care in India: a cohort study.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted health-care systems, leading to concerns about its subsequent impact on non-COVID disease conditions. The diagnosis and management of cancer is time sensitive and is likely to be substantially affected by these disruptions. We aimed to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer care in India.

Background The overwhelming majority of published articles have taken colon and rectal cancer as a single group, i.e., colorectal cancer, when normalizing gene expression data with housekeeping genes (HKG) in quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) experiments though there are published reports that suggest the differential expression pattern of genes between the colon and rectal cancer groups and hence the current experiment was attempted to find out the optimal set of housekeeping genes from the list of common HKG for rectal tumor gene expression analysis.

In the present study, we correlated the various lifestyle habits and their associated mutations in cell cycle (P21 and MDM2) and DNA damage repair (MLH1) genes to investigate their role in gastric cancer (GC). Multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) analysis revealed the two-factor model of oral snuff and smoked meat as the significant model for GC risk. The interaction analysis between identified mutations and the significant demographic factors predicted that oral snuff is significantly associated with P21 3'UTR mutations.

Brachytherapy Localization Radiographs with Conventional Diagnostic X-Ray Machine.

With conventional diagnostic X-ray machines with over couch X-ray tubes, it is not possible to obtain anteroposterior (AP) and lateral (Lat) radiographs without changing the posture of the patients. In an old 300 mA X-ray machine with a fluoroscopy screen (12.4 kg) (1995 model), by substituting the screen with suitable counterweight and making provision to take the hoist pillar up to the edge of the wall, we could get isocentric setup for a hospital stretcher kept near the chest stand.

Lifelong vegetarianism and breast cancer risk: a large multicentre case control study in India.

Background: The lower incidence of breast cancer in Asian populations where the intake of animal products is lower than that of Western populations has led some to suggest that a vegetarian diet might reduce breast cancer risk.

Methods: Between 2011 and 2014 we conducted a multicentre hospital based case-control study in eight cancer centres in India. Eligible cases were women aged 30-70 years, with newly diagnosed invasive breast cancer (ICD10 C50).

Validation of the EORTC QLQ-BIL21 questionnaire for measuring quality of life in patients with cholangiocarcinoma and cancer of the gallbladder.

Background: There is no specific quality of life (QoL) measurement tool to quantify QoL in patients with biliary tract cancer. Quality of life measurement is an increasingly crucial trial end point and is now being incorporated into clinical practice.

Methods: This International Multicentre Phase IV Validation Study assessed the QLQ-BIL21 module in 172 patients with cholangiocarcinoma and 91 patients with cancer of the gallbladder.

PPL catalyzed four-component PASE synthesis of 5-monosubstituted barbiturates: Structure and pharmacological properties.

Enzymatic four-component reactions are very rare although three-component enzymatic promiscuous reactions are widely reported. Herein, we report an efficient PASE protocol for the synthesis of potentially lipophilic zwitterionic 5-monosubstituted barbiturates by four component reaction of mixture of ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, aldehyde and barbituric acid in ethanol at room temperature. Seven different lipases were screened for their promiscuous activity towards the synthesis of 5-monosubstituted barbiturates and the lipase from porcine pancreas (PPL) found to give optimum efficiency.

p16 Expression as a Surrogate Marker for HPV Infection in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma can Predict Response to Neo-Adjuvant Chemotherapy.

Background: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common cancer in the north east of India. The present study concerned the prevalence of human papilloma virus (HPV) in the ESCC in north eastern India and its impact on response to chemotherapy.

Materials And Methods: p16 expression, a surrogate marker for HPV infection was assessed in 101 pre-treatment biopsies of locally advanced ESCC, reported from a comprehensive cancer centre in north east India, using immunohistochemistry.
