Background: Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) is a complication of reperfusion therapy following acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We aimed to develop and validate a model for predicting HT and its subtypes with poor prognosis-parenchymal hemorrhage (PH), including PH-1 (hematoma within infarcted tissue, occupying < 30%) and PH-2 (hematoma occupying ≥ 30% of the infarcted tissue)-in AIS patients following intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) based on noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) and clinical data.
Methods: In this six-center retrospective study, clinical and imaging data from 445 consecutive IVT-treated AIS patients were collected (01/2018-06/2023).

Mutations that increase LRRK2 kinase activity have been linked to Parkinson's disease and Crohn's disease. LRRK2 is also activated by lysosome damage. However, the endogenous cellular mechanisms that control LRRK2 kinase activity are not well understood.

IKKα, encoded by CHUK, is crucial in the non-canonical NF-κB pathway and part of the IKK complex activating the canonical pathway alongside IKKβ. The absence of IKKα causes fetal encasement syndrome in humans, fatal in utero, while an impaired IKKα-NIK interaction was reported in a single patient and causes combined immunodeficiency. Here, we describe compound heterozygous variants in the kinase domain of IKKα in a female patient with hypogammaglobulinemia, recurrent lung infections, and Hay-Wells syndrome-like features.

Quantifying pleural effusion change on chest CT is important for evaluating disease severity and treatment response. The purpose of this study was to assess the accuracy of artificial intelligence (AI)-based volume quantification of pleural effusion change on CT images, using the volume of drained fluid as the reference standard. Seventy-nine participants (mean age, 65 ± [SD] 13 years; 47 male) undergoing thoracentesis were prospectively enrolled from October 2021 to September 2023.

Purpose To investigate whether the computational effort of 3D CT-based multiorgan segmentation with TotalSegmentator can be reduced via Tucker decomposition-based network compression. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, Tucker decomposition was applied to the convolutional kernels of the TotalSegmentator model, an nnU-Net model trained on a comprehensive CT dataset for automatic segmentation of 117 anatomic structures. The proposed approach reduced the floating-point operations (FLOPs) and memory required during inference, offering an adjustable trade-off between computational efficiency and segmentation quality.

Coronary artery calcification is an impediment to percutaneous coronary interventions by obstructing the device pathway or stent deployment. To facilitate percutaneous coronary intervention in such complex lesions, high-pressure balloon dilations, atherectomy procedures, and specialty balloons are used but they all come with considerable limitations and periprocedural complications like dissection and perforation. To surpass these disadvantages, intravascular lithotripsy was introduced which acts by delivering high-pressure pulsatile sonic waves circumferentially thereby destroying the calcium deposits.

Introduction: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is a hematopoietic malignancy characterized by the presence of Reed Sternberg cells, with generally favourable outcomes compared to other hematological malignancies. This study aims to determine the socio-demographic, clinical and treatment characteristics, as well as the short-term overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) rates, of HL patients treated at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), a tertiary centre in northeast peninsular Malaysia.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of HL patients treated from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2018, with follow-up until December 31, 2021.

Developing versatile, scalable, and durable coatings that repel various matters in different service environments is of great importance for engineered materials applications but remains highly challenging. Here, the mesoporous silica microspheres (HMS) fabricated by the hard template method were utilized as micro-nanocontainers to encapsulate the hydrophobic agent of perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (F13) and the corrosion inhibitor of benzotriazole (BTA), forming the functional microsphere of F-HMS(BTA). Moreover, the synthesized organosilane-modified silica sol adhesive (SMP) and F-HMS(BTA) were further employed as the binder and functional filler to construct a superhydrophobic self-healing coating of SMP@F-HMS(BTA) on various engineering metals through scalable spraying.

Aims: Less pronounced calcification of the aortic valve (AVC) was observed in women with aortic stenosis (AS) as compared to men. Since women have smaller aortic valves (AV), this could explain a lower calcium load. We aimed to analyze the association of AV size with AVC independent from sex.

Three hospitals implemented molecular point-of-care tests (POCTs) to screen patients for SARS-CoV-2 infection upon admission during the 2021/2022 influenza season, which in Belgium lasted from January to April 2022. The samples were simultaneously tested for influenza A/B. Influenza positivity at admission was examined in relation to patient characteristics and symptomatology.

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop and validate predictive models for perineural invasion (PNI) in gastric cancer (GC) using clinical factors and radiomics features derived from contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) scans and to compare the performance of these models.
Methods: This study included 205 GC patients, who were randomly divided into a training set (n=143) and a validation set (n=62) in a 7:3 ratio. Optimal radiomics features were selected using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm.

3D printed titanium scaffold has promising applications in orthopedics. However, the bioinert titanium presents challenges for promoting vascularization and tissue growth within the porous scaffold for stable osteointegration. In this study, a modular porous titanium scaffold is created using 3D printing and a gradient-surface strategy to immobilize QK peptide on the surface with a bi-directional gradient distribution.

Rationale: Smoking has been shown to be associated with circulating deficiencies in 25(OH)D3 and reduced sinonasal tissue levels of the active form of vitamin D, 1,25(OH)2D3. Given vitamin D's ability to reduce inflammation, we sought to examine if intranasal (IN) delivery of calcitriol [clinical analog of 1,25(OH)2D3] could reduce inflammation and improve disease severity in a murine model of chronic cigarette smoke-induced sinonasal inflammation (CS-SI).
Methods: Mice were exposed to CS 5 h/day, 5 days/week for 9 months, and then began IN calcitriol three times per week for 4 weeks.

Since rare pancreatic cystic tumors may differ from common pancreatic cystic neoplasms in terms of treatment plan and prognosis, the differential diagnosis of these diseases is clinically relevant. Various imaging tests play an important role in the differential diagnosis of rare cystic pancreatic tumors, but accurately distinguishing these diseases solely on the basis of imaging findings is challenging. The purpose of this pictorial review is to present CT and in particular MR imaging features of rare pancreatic cystic tumors and discuss potential elements for differential diagnosis.

Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for almost 70 % of people living with HIV (PLWH) worldwide, with the greatest numbers centred in South Africa where 98 % of infections are caused by subtype C (HIV-1C). However, HIV-1 subtype B (HIV-1B), prevalent in Europe and North America, has been the focus of most cure research and testing despite making up only 12 % of HIV-1 infections globally. Development of latency models for non-subtype B viruses is a necessary step to address this disproportionate focus.

Background: People with cystic fibrosis (CF) variants that exhibit residual function (RF) of the CF transmembrane conductance regulator are considered to have a milder disease; however, the spectrum of CF phenotype within the different RF variants has not been extensively investigated. The aim of the present study was to characterise the spectrum of CF disease severity in people with CF (pwCF) carrying different RF variants, using the European Cystic Fibrosis Society Patient Registry (ECFSPR) data.
Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional and longitudinal cohort study included data from the ECFSPR during 2008-2016.
