The hydrogen shift reactions of peroxy radicals derived from the ȮH-initiated oxidation of three atmospherically important monoterpenes, limonene, α-pinene, and β-pinene, have been studied. The Bell-Evans-Polanyi relationship (BEPR), Marcus cross relationship (MCR), and Robert-Steel relationship (RSR) are employed to study the factors that contribute to the kinetics of the H-shift reactions. Our results show distinct kinetic behaviors based on the size of the transition-state ring, the functional group present at the H atom abstraction site, and the type of carbon-centered radical formed.

The present study reports some fascinating results of Hantzsch's [3 + 2] cyclic condensation of α-bromo-1,3-diketones, a tri-electrophilic synthon generated by bromination of 1,3-diketones using the mild brominating reagent NBS with trinucleophilic -substituted thioureas. Interestingly, out of a total of 20 combinations, 10 resulted in the exclusive formation of the desired 2-(-arylamino)-5-acyl-4-methylthiazoles regioselectively, seven led to the formation of unexpected 2-(-acylimino)-3--aryl-4-methylthiazoles through an interesting C-N acyl migration, and three furnished a mixture consisting of both products. The regioselectivity pattern of the two products may be attributed to a greater electrophilicity of the carbonyl carbon of the acetyl group than that of the acyl group towards both nitrogens of thiourea.

This report describes the visible-light-induced one-pot multicomponent regioselective synthesis of a series of 5-aroyl-3-((arylidene)amino)-2-((arylidene)hydrazono)-4-methyl-2,3-dihydrothiazoles as DNA and BSA targeting agents. The multicomponent condensation of thiocarbohydrazide and aldehydes with α-bromo-1,3-diketones, generated by the bromination of unsymmetrical 1,3-diketones with NBS using white LED light as an environmental friendly source in the presence of EtOAc solvent furnished the titled 2,3-dihydrothiazole derivatives in excellent yields. The exact regioisomeric structure was identified unambiguously by employing multinuclear 2D-NMR spectroscopy [H-C] HMBC; [H-C] HMQC and [H-N] HMBC.

Organic transformations mediated by visible light have gained popularity in recent years as they are green, renewable, inexpensive, and clean and yield excellent products. The present study describes cyclo-condensation of 2-methylthiazole-4-carbothioamide with differently substituted α-bromo-1,3-diketones achieved by utilizing a white light-emitting diode (LED) (9W) to accomplish the regioselective synthesis of novel 5-aroyl/hetaroyl-2',4-dimethyl-2,4'-bithiazole derivatives as DNA/bovine serum albumin (BSA)-targeting agents. The structure characterization of the exact regioisomer was achieved unequivocally by heteronuclear two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (2D-NMR) spectroscopy [H-C] HMBC; [H-C] HMQC; and [H-N] HMBC.

The gas phase and heterogeneous reaction on mineral dust aerosols of trace gases could significantly affect the tropospheric oxidation capacity and aerosol composition of the atmosphere. In this work, the OH radical-initiated oxidation of a hydrofluoroolefin, HFO-1234zc, and subsequent reaction of favorable intermediates with other reactive species, such as O, HO, and NO ( = 1-2) radicals, were studied, and the role of mineral dust in the form of silicate clusters on the reaction mechanism and rate constant was studied. In the gas phase, OH radical addition to HFO-1234zc is kinetically more favorable than the H-atom abstraction reaction.

The autoxidation of formaldehyde through initiation by triplet oxygen is studied via two initial steps: (1) H-atom abstraction and (2) O addition reaction. The reaction energy profiles show that the reactions are thermodynamically and kinetically demanding. A comparison of the pathways of these initial reactions and the search for a less energy-demanding pathway is presented.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

October 2021

SRI International, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA.

Quantum chemical calculations and dynamics simulations were performed to study the reaction between methyl peroxy radical (CHO) and O. The reaction proceeds through three different pathways (1) H-atom abstraction, (2) O addition and (3) concerted H-atom shift and O addition reactions. The concerted H-atom shift and O addition pathway is the most favourable reaction both kinetically and thermodynamically.
