Over decades, nanozyme has served as a better replacement of bioenzymes and fulfills most of the shortcomings and intrinsic disadvantages of bioenzymes. Recently, manganese-based nanomaterials have been highly noticed for redox-modulated multienzyme mimicking activity and wide applications in biosensing and biomedical science. The redox-modulated multienzyme mimicking activity was highly in tune with their size, surface functionalization, and charge on the surface and phases.

Herein, we are reporting the carbon nano onions (CNO)-based sulphonated poly(ethersulfone) (SPES) composite membranes by varying CNO content in SPES matrix for water desalination applications. CNOs were cost-effectively synthesized using flaxseed oil as a carbon source in an energy efficient flame pyrolysis process. The physico- and electrochemical properties of nanocomposite membranes were evaluated and compared to pristine SPES.

Bacteria organized in biofilms show significant tolerance to conventional antibiotics compared to their planktonic counterparts and form the basis for chronic infections. Biofilms are composites of different types of extracellular polymeric substances that help in resisting several host-defense measures, including phagocytosis. These are increasingly being recognized as a passive virulence factor that enables many infectious diseases to proliferate and an essential contributing facet to anti-microbial resistance.

Migal Galilee Research Institute, P.O. Box 831, Kiryat Shmona, 11016, Israel; Tel Hai College, Environmental Sciences Department, Upper Galilee, 12210, Israel.

Acorus calamus is a perennial aromatic medicinal plant from the Acorusaceae family, known for its pharmaceutical and medicinal value. A combined chemical, biochemical, and molecular study was conducted to evaluate the differential accumulation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in rhizomes and leaves of A. calamus essential oil.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a common single-use plastic that accumulated in the environment because of its non-degradable characteristics. In recent years, microbes from different environments were found to degrade plastics and suggested their capability to degrade plastics under varying environmental conditions. However, complete degradation of plastics is still a void for large-scale implications using microbes because of the lack of knowledge about genes and pathways intricate in the biodegradation process.

Herein we disclosed the use of a remote 'imidazole'-based precatalyst [(para-cymene)Ru (L)Cl] , C-1 where L=2-(4-substituted-phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f] phenanthroline) for the selective oxidation of a variety of alkyl arenes/heteroarenes and alcohols to their corresponding aldehydes or ketones in presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP). The remote 'imidazole' moiety present in the complex facilitates the activation of oxidant and subsequent generation of active species via the release of para-cymene from C-1, which in-turn was less effective without the 'imidazole' moiety. The mechanistic features of C-1 promoted oxidation of alkyl arenes were also assessed from spectroscopic, kinetic, and few control experiments.

In the present article we have developed an eco-friendly, phytosynthetic, cost-effective and straightforward method for the synthesis of nearly monodisperse CuO nanospheres (NSP) using leaf extracts of medicinal plants Phyllanthus reticulatus (PR) and Conyza bonariensis (CB) as novel green reducing agents. Copper nitrate (Cu (NO)) was used as a precursor. The stoichiometric ratio of both leaf extracts (PR/CB) and Cu(NO) was standardized for the synthesis of NSP.

Budding trends in integrated pest management using advanced micro- and nano-materials: Challenges and perspectives.

J Environ Manage

December 2016

Plant Molecular Biology, Biochemical Sciences Division, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune 411008, Maharashtra, India. Electronic address:

One of the most vital supports to sustain human life on the planet earth is the agriculture system that has been constantly challenged in terms of yield. Crop losses due to insect pest attack even after excessive use of chemical pesticides, are major concerns for humanity and environment protection. By the virtue of unique properties possessed by micro and nano-structures, their implementation in Agri-biotechnology is largely anticipated.

Phycocyanin is a natural brilliant blue colored, fluorescent protein, which is commonly present in cyanobacteria. In this study, C-phycocyanin was extracted and purified from Spirulina platensis, which are multicellular and filamentous cyanobacteria of greater importance because of its various biological and pharmacological potential. It was analyzed for its binding affinity towards blood cells, algal cells, genomic DNA of microalgae, and bacteria at different temperature and incubation time.

A dithiane derivative of BODIPY is synthesized. This new reagent could be used for the specific and instantaneous detection of Hg(2+) in physiological condition. This dithiane reagent reacts specifically with Hg(2+) to regenerate the parent BODIPY-aldehyde with consequential change in visually detectable optical responses and this provides the possibility of using this reagent as a colorimetric probe or as a fluorescent biomarker/imaging reagent.
