Recent studies propose that primary transcripts of miRNAs (pri-miRNAs) contain small Open Reading Frames (ORFs) capable of encoding miRNA-encoded peptides (miPEPs). These miPEPs can function as transcriptional regulators for their corresponding pri-miRNAs, ultimately enhancing mature miRNA accumulation. Notably, pri-miR408 encodes the functional peptide miPEP408, regulating expression of miR408 and its target genes, providing plant tolerance to stresses.

Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), is one of the most reputed Indian medicinal plants, having immense pharmacological activities due to the occurrence of withanolides. The withanolides are biosynthesized through triterpenoid biosynthetic pathway with the involvement of WsCAS leading to cyclization of 2, 3 oxidosqualene, which is a key metabolite to further diversify to a myriad of phytochemicals. In contrast to the available reports on the studies of WsCAS in withanolide biosynthesis, its involvement in phytosterol biosynthesis needs investigation.

Out of several miRNAs in Arabidopsis, miR397b and miR857 regulate secondary growth by modulating lignin polymerization and deposition in secondary xylem cells by targeting laccases. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women with significant morbidity and mortality. Present study describes design, synthesis and detailed pharmacology of indole derivatives exhibiting remarkable broad spectrum antiproliferative activity against breast cancer cells. Detailed mechanistic evaluations confirmed induction of G0/G1 arrest, apoptosis induction, loss of mitochondrial integrity, enhanced ROS generation, autophagy, estrogen receptor β-transactivation and increased tubulin polymerization.
