Anti-resorptive inhibitors such as bisphosphonates are widely used but they have limited efficacy and serious side effects. Though subcutaneous injection of teriparatide [PTH (1-34)] is an effective anabolic therapy, long-term repeated subcutaneous administration is not recommended.
