Heterotrophic fast-growing thraustochytrids have been identified as promising candidates for the bioconversion of organic sources into industrially important valuable products. Marine thraustochytrids exhibit remarkable potential for high-value polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) production however their potential is recently discovered for high-value carotenoids and terpenoids which also have a role as a dietary supplement and health promotion. Primarily, omega-3 and 6 PUFAs (DHA, EPA, and ARA) from thraustochytrids are emerging sources of nutrient supplements for vegetarians replacing animal sources and active pharmaceutical ingredients due to excellent bioactivities.

A mechanistic understanding of the principles governing the hierarchical organization of supramolecular polymers offers a paradigm for tailoring synthetic molecular architectures at the nano to micrometric scales. Herein, the unconventional crystal growth mechanism of a supramolecular polymer of superbenzene(coronene)-diphenylalanine conjugate (Cr-FF ) is demonstrated. 3D electron diffraction (3D ED), a technique underexplored in supramolecular chemistry, is effectively utilized to gain a molecular-level understanding of the gradual growth of the initially formed poorly crystalline hairy, fibril-like supramolecular polymers into the ribbon-like crystallites.

Multibranched donor-acceptor derivatives exhibiting desirable photophysical properties are efficiently used in optoelectronic devices, in which the excited state relaxation dynamics of the derivatives control the efficiency of the devices. Here, the effect of intramolecular torsion on the excited state relaxation dynamics of tetraphenylpyrazine (TPP) derivatives in non-polar (toluene) and polar (THF) solvents is investigated by substituting the electron donor of morpholine (TPP-4MOP) and phenoxazine (TPP-4PHO) leading to the planar and twisted configurations, respectively, using femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. In the steady state, TPP-4MOP showed feeble emission ( ∼0.

The covalent and non-covalent nature of carbon-carbon (CC) interactions in a wide range of molecular systems can be characterized using various methods, including the analysis of molecular electrostatic potential (MESP), represented as (), and the molecular electron density (MED), represented as (). These techniques provide valuable insights into the bonding between carbon atoms in different molecular environments. By uncovering a fundamental exponential relationship between the distance of the CC bond and the highest eigenvalue () of () at the bond critical point (BCP), this study establishes the continuum model for all types of CC interactions, including transition states.

The development of biodegradable and biocompatible fluorescent materials with tunable emission in the solid state has become increasingly relevant for smart packaging and biomedical applications. Molecular packing and conformations play a critical role in tuning the solid-state photophysical properties of fluorescent materials. In this work, tunable emission of bioactive curcumin was achieved through the manipulation of the crystallization conditions and the polymorphic form of covalently linked poly(L-lactide) in the curcumin-embedded poly(L-lactide) (curcumin-PLLA).

One of the bottlenecks associated with supramolecular polymerization of functional π-systems is the spontaneous assembly of monomers leading to one- or two-dimensional (1D or 2D) polymers without control over chain length and optical properties. In the case of supramolecular copolymerization of monomers that are structurally too diverse, preferential self-sorting occurs unless they are closely interacting donor-acceptor pairs. Herein, it is established that the spontaneous 1D polymerization of a phenyleneethynylene (PE) derivative and the 2D polymerization of a Bodipy derivative (BODIPY) can be controlled by copolymerizing them in different ratios, leading to unusual spindle-shaped structures with controlled aspect ratio, as evident by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) studies.

We have come across a substrate namely, 5-benzoyl-pyrrolo[2,1-]isoquinoline in which three different functionalizable C-H bonds were identified that could be judiciously transformed site selectively for the generation of complex polyring fused -heterocycles. A Pd-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling of 5-benzoyl-pyrrolo[2,1-]isoquinoline afforded 8-indeno-pyrrolo[2,1-]isoquinolinone and an oxygen induced palladium catalyzed selective C-H amination in the same substrate provided a pentacene viz., 9-indolo-pyrrolo[2,1-]isoquinoline.

ConspectusThe topology of molecular electrostatic potential (MESP), (), derived from a reliable quantum chemical method has been used as a powerful tool for the study of intermolecular noncovalent interactions. The MESP topology mapping is achieved by computing both ∇() data and the elements of the Hessian matrix at ∇() = 0, the critical point. MESP minimum () as well as MESP at a reaction center, specific to an atom (), have been employed as electronic parameters to interpret the variations in the reactivity (activation/deactivation) of chemical systems with respect to the influence of substituents, ligands, π-conjugation, aromaticity, trans influence, hybridization effects, steric effects, cooperativity, noncovalent interactions, etc.
