Garden cress seeds produces mucilage that has found various food applications, however, there is little information on the free oligosaccharides (FOS) contents in these seeds. Herein, we explored the presence of FOS in cress seed aqueous exudate. PGC-LC MS/MS analysis indicated the presence of mainly hexose containing oligosaccharides such as raffinose, stachyose and verbascose belonging to raffinose family of oligosaccharides (RFOs).

In the present study, the effect of coffee leaf extract (CLE) on in vitro enzyme inhibition was studied. Furthermore, its impact on the high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice (C57BL/6) at the levels of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight along with positive control (orlistat) and the normal group maintained with starch-fed diet (SFD) was observed. CLE had significant α amylase and lipase enzyme inhibitory properties.

Aptamers are an excellent choice for the selective detection of small molecules. However, the previously reported aptamer for chloramphenicol suffers from low affinity, probably as a result of steric hindrance due to its bulky nature (80 nucleotides) leading to lower sensitivity in analytical assays. The present work was aimed at improving this binding affinity by truncating the aptamer without compromising its stability and three-dimensional folding.

Raffinose and planteose are non-reducing, isomeric trisaccharides present in many higher plants. Structurally, they differ in the linkage of α-D-galactopyranosyl to either glucose C(6) or to C (6') of fructose, respectively and thus differentiating each other is very challenging. The negative ion mode mass spectrometric analysis is shown to distinguish planteose and raffinose.

The human gut microbiota (HGM), a community of trillions of microbes, underscores its contribution by impacting many facets of host health and disease. In the HGM, Bacteroidota and Bacillota represent dominant bacterial phyla, which mainly rely on the glycans recalcitrant to host digestion to meet their energy requirements. This work focuses on the profiling of semiochemicals (SCS) from , and by headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. Totally, 6, 9 and 8 volatile compounds (VCS) were detected from , and , respectively. As a result of pherobase analysis and preference bioassay, stearic acid (); nonanal, lauric acid and stearic acid (); stearic acid () were identified as new SCS that could be useful for integrated pest management (IPM) practices.

Anthocyanins are a subclass of flavonoids that are synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum and then transported to the vacuole in plants. Multidrug and toxic compound extrusion transporters (MATE) is a family of membrane transporters that transport ions and secondary metabolites, such as anthocyanins, in plants. Unlabelled: In the present study sunset yellow (SY), a synthetic colour, which is a common adulterant in tea powders has been analysed using FT-IR spectral data coupled to machine learning tools for efficient classification and quantification of the SY adulteration. Earlier established real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) was used as variable selection method to predict the key fingerprints of SY in the FT-IR spectra. Here, RCGA was used to select 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 characteristic wavenumbers for SY.
