The potential of bio-preservatives, namely, nisin, natamycin, and polylysine, as viable alternatives to chemical preservatives for storage of tender coconut water (TCW) during refrigerated storage (5 ± 2°C) was explored. Bio-preservative treatments were carried out after optimized heat treatment (85°C for 5 min) of TCW to establish its storage characteristics. Tailored transmembrane alpha-helical pores with desired structural and functional versatility have promising applications in nanobiotechnology. Herein, we present a transmembrane pore DpPorA, based on the natural pore PorACj, built from D-amino acid α-helical peptides. Using single-channel current recordings, we show that DpPorA peptides self-assemble into uniform cation-selective pores in lipid membranes and exhibit properties distinct from their L-amino acid counterparts.

In this study, we analyzed the srtE gene from Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC 13032, which codes for class E sortase, a transpeptidase involved in attaching surface proteins to the cell wall peptidoglycan. The surface proteins contain an N-terminal leader sequence and a C-terminal sorting signal which consist of a LAXTG motif, a transmembrane region, and a few positively charged amino acids. Sortase E deletion or its overexpression alters the attachment of the surface proteins to the cell wall peptidoglycan; however, the effects on morphology and bacterial physiology have not been studied.

The application of pesticides enhances food production vastly, and it cannot be prevented; longer fresh produce is contaminated with health-threatening pesticides even though traditional processing methods can remove these pesticides from food surfaces to a certain extent; novel emerging technologies such as cold plasma, ultrasound, electrolyzed water, and pulsed electric field could more effectively dissipate the pesticide content in food without the release of toxic residual on the food surface. This review aims to present an analysis and discussion on the processing of lignocellulosic biomass in terms of biorefinery concept and circular bioeconomy operating at high solids lignocellulosic (above 15% [w/w]) at the pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis stage, and fermentation strategy for an integrated lignocellulosic bioprocessing.
