Braylin (10b) is a 8,8-dimethyl chromenocoumarin present in the plants of the family Rutaceae and Meliaceae and possesses vasorelaxing and anti-inflammatory activities. In this study, six 6-alkoxy (10b, 15-19), and twelve 6-hydroxy-alkyl amine (20a-20l) derivatives of braylin (11 and 12) were synthesized to delineate its structural requirement for vasorelaxing activity. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for vasorelaxation response in preconstricted intact rat Main Mesenteric Artery (MMA).

Abnormal epigenetics has been recognised as an early event in tumour progression and aberrant acetylation of lysine in particular has been understood in tumorigenesis. Therefore, it has become an attractive target for anticancer drug development. However, HDAC inhibitors have limited success due to toxicity and drug resistance concerns.

Bioplastics replace synthetic plastics of petrochemical origin, which contributes challenge to both polymer quality and economics. Novel polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA)-composite materials, with desirable product quality, could be developed, thus targeting the global plastics market, in the coming years. It is possible that PHA can be a greener substitute for their petroleum-based competitors since they are simply decomposed, which may lessen the pressure on municipal and industrial waste management systems.

Liquiritigenin (LTG) and its bioprecursor isoliquiritigenin(ISL), the main bioactives from roots of Glycyrrhiza genus are progressively documented as a potential pharmacological agent for the management of chronic diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacological potential of liquiritigenin, isoliquiritigenin rich extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra roots (IVT-21) against the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines from activated macrophages as well as further validated the efficacy in collagen-induced arthritis model in rats. We also performed the safety profile of IVT-21 using standard in-vitro and in-vivo assays.

Background: Malaria remains one of the major health concerns, especially in tropical countries. Although drugs such as artemisinin-based combinations are efficient for treating Plasmodium falciparum, the growing threat from multi-drug resistance has become a major challenge. Thus, there is a constant need to identify and validate new combinations to sustain current disease control strategies to overcome the challenge of drug resistance in the malaria parasites.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neuro-motor ailment that strikes adults in their older life and results in both motor and non-motor impairments. In neuronal and glial cells, PD has recently been linked to a dysregulated autophagic system and cerebral inflammation. Chloroquine (CQ), an anti-malarial drug, has been demonstrated to suppress autophagy in a variety of diseases, including cerebral ischemia, Alzheimer's disease (AD), and Traumatic brain injury (TBI), while its involvement in PD is still unclear.

Narirutin is a dietary flavanone found in lemons, oranges, passion fruit, bergamot and grapefruit. It possesses anti-allergic, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, hepatoprotective potential, and its enriched fraction suppresses the growth of prostate cancer cells; however, there is currently no information on the chemopreventive potential of narirutin alone against hormone-refractory prostate cancer cells (PC-3) and its mode of action. Thus, the chemopreventive possibility of narirutin was investigated in PC-3 cells by utilising cytotoxicity assays.
