The tannery effluent treatment plants produce tonnes of waste in the form of mixed salts containing sodium chloride, sulfate, calcium, and magnesium salts. Disposal of these mixed salts may create an environmental problem. The proposed method broadly consists of the separation of sodium chloride from reverse osmosis (RO) reject and raw-hide waste salt (preservative salt) of the tannery.

As electrochemical oxidation technologies are energy-intensive, they are sparsely included in wastewater treatment plants. This study demonstrates a self-reliable glucose driven-electro-Fenton (GD-EF) system for decontamination of 2,4-dichlorophenoxy (2,4-D) herbicides without the supply of external current or voltage. It incorporates a cathode (graphite) which accepts electrons from abiotic glucose oxidation at anode (Pt/Ti or BDD or PbO/Cu/Ti) and generates HO.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) not only combine globally demanded renewable energy generation and environmental remediation onto a single platform but also rationalize structure-performance synergies to devise smarter materials with remarkable performance. The robust and non-interpenetrated cationic MOF exemplifies a unique bifunctional scaffold for the efficient electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and ultrasensitive monitoring of biohazards. The microporous framework containing Brønsted acid-functionalized [Co(μ-OH)(CO)] secondary building units (SBUs) exhibits remarkable OER performance in 1 M KOH, requiring 410 mV overpotential to obtain 10 mA cm anodic current density, and a low Tafel slope of 55 mV/dec with 93.

Exploring non-platinum group metal (n-PGM) based efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electro-catalysts is highly important for realizing advancement in sustainable next generation-alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AAEMFCs). Herein, we demonstrate a new "hierarchical shape tuning approach" for the synthesis of controlled sized and shaped non-PGM based Ag ORR electro-catalysts with surface active nano-islands. Hierarchical shapes ranging from spherical (S-AgNs), worm-in-sphere, sphere-in-worm and vermiform (worm-like) Ag nanostructures (V-AgNs) were obtained by precisely varying the ratios of capping agent to dual reducing agents in water at ambient conditions.

Alloxan is a chemical generally administered to rats to induce diabetes mellitus, and pharmaceutical industries test the efficacy of their diabetic products on these rats. Alloxan is in a redox cycle with dialuric acid; hence, direct estimation of alloxan may not represent the actual concentration of the same in a given matrix. Also, in recent times, alloxan is added to food materials, especially to the all-purpose flour (maida) to bring softness and white color to the flour.
