Influence of different irrigants on substance P and IL-8 expression for single visit root canal treatment in acute irreversible pulpitis.

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of ketorolac tromethamine and dexamethasone on substance P and IL-8 expression when used as a root canal irrigant for single visit root canal treatment for acute irreversible pulpitis. A total of 42 patients with pain due to acute irreversible pulpitis in carious premolar and molar teeth were included in this study. The four irrigation groups were as follows: saline (n = 11), 3% sodium hypochlorite (n = 11), ketorolac tromethamine (n = 10) and dexamethasone (n = 10).

Spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma of the anterior mandible manifesting as a periapical lesion of pulpal origin: Case report.

A 25-year-old male patient presented with swelling and pain in the mandibular anterior region for the previous 6 months. He had a history of repeated traumatic episodes associated with his lower incisors. A periapical radiograph revealed a radiolucent lesion involving the apices of the lower incisors, whereas cone beam computed tomography revealed a large osteolytic lesion involving all mandibular incisors and loss of labial and lingual cortical plates.

Esthetic Management of Compromised Ridge in the Anterior Maxilla, a Modified Prosthetic Approach.

Replacing a missing tooth with an implant, especially in the esthetic zone has been increasing demand for the patient. Placing dental implants in the esthetic zone, especially in the compromised ridge with thin gingival thin biotype is considered to be the ultimate challenge for many dentists. This case report illustrates the implant placement in the traumatic anterior maxilla with thin gingival biotype (Class IV) and a modified approach in prosthetic placement.

Pterygoid Implant for Atrophic Posterior Maxilla.

Replacement of missing teeth in the posterior maxilla is always a challenge for the treating implant surgeon as the posterior maxilla has several obstacles in the form of quality, quantity, the anatomy of the maxillary sinus, and inaccessibility. To overcome these deficiencies, several surgical procedures such as sinus lift, bone augmentation, tilted implants, short implants, and zygomatic implants were tried. Since these procedures have their own limitations, pterygomaxillary region provides us an excellent place for placement of implant and rehabilitation of posterior maxilla.

Dental Implants: A Remote Option in Case of Somatic Delusion Disorder.

A 29-year-old female was referred by a psychiatrist for dental implantation and prosthodontic rehabilitation, as she had all her healthy permanent teeth extracted within a span of 2-6 months, due to somatic delusional disorder. She presently refuses artificial dentures and implants with the fear of having worms in her teeth and the fear not yet allayed. The patient cannot be treated for her edentulous state until her psychiatric symptoms are treated.

Matrix technique described in this article combines the advantages of both flexible and rigid matrix in anterior composite restorations. Using mylar strip provide advantages, of one utilizing the mylar strip for contouring the labial aspect of restoration thereby, and overcomes the problem in adapting the teflon tape around the tooth.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to elicit the amount of safety margin necessary around the ameloblastic lesion in view of preventing further recurrence.

Materials And Methods: The study consisted of 25 cases of mandibular ameloblastoma. Diagnosis was based on clinical and radiological analysis and confirmed by histopathological report.

Peri-implant soft tissue management: A case report (2 years follow-up) (Patrick Palacci technique revisited).

Over the years, several techniques such as tissue punch technique, full thickness flaps, and scalloping adjustment of flaps around implants have been employed; it was very difficult to achieve a papilla like formation around implants. These added time and expense of the final results and led to undesirable complications.

To obtain an esthetic and predictable gingival architecture and implant restoration, interdental papilla plays an important role. Crown lengthening procedure in the management of amelogenesis imperfecta.

Full mouth rehabilitation includes a promising treatment planning and execution thus fulfilling esthetic, occlusal, and functional parameters maintaining the harmony of the stomatognathic system. Crown lengthening procedures have become an integral component of the esthetic armamentarium and are utilized with increasing frequency to enhance the appearance of restorations placed in the esthetic zone. Crown lengthening plays a role to create healthy relationship of the gingiva and bone levels so as to gain access to more of the tooth which can be restored, if it is badly worn, decayed or fractured, below the gum line.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome induced by a combination of lamotrigine and valproic acid.

Lamotrigine and valproic acid are well-tolerated anticonvulsants, but frequently associated with severe cutaneous reactions, such as the Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis, when used in combination. We report a case of SJS likely induced by the use of a lamotrigine and valproic acid regimen and as a dental surgeon it is important to identify such lesion and report to pharmacovigilance.

Estimation and comparison of serum cortisol levels in periodontally diseased patients and periodontally healthy individuals: A clinical-biochemical study.

Introduction: Psychological conditions, particularly psychosocial stress have been implicated as risk indicators of periodontal disease. Stress increases cortisol production from the adrenal cortex by stimulating an increase in the release of ACTH from the pituitary gland. Increased cortisol production suppresses the immune response and increases the potential of periodontal tissue destruction.
