Herpes zoster is an acute viral infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus. It occurs commonly in immunocompromised adults. Odontalgia may be an early prodromal symptom when herpes zoster involves the oral and maxillofacial region, which lays significant emphasis on the role of a dentist in early diagnosis and treatment of the infection.

Oral Commensals in Healthy Individuals: A Clinicocytological Study.

Background Each human being has a specific group of microorganisms that are necessary for both sustaining health and causing illness. Normally, these microorganisms maintain bio-communalism, do not harm the host, and lead to a state known as symbiosis or eubiosis. The commensal nature of these bacteria is always maintained in symbiosis and attains pathogenic potential when there is an imbalance between host immunity and microorganisms.

To determine the level of dental attrition and its relation to signs of TMJ dysfunction adding to condylar alterations analyzed by conventional TMJ Tomography and to propose the correlation between dental attrition and signs of TMJ dysfunction and condylar changes. Patients for the study were selected from the regular outpatient Department of Oral Medicine, Diagnosis and Radiology, Rajah Muthiah Dental College and Hospital, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, with performed criteria. The radiographic examination of TMJ is performed by the PLANMECA OPG machine using the tomographic program.

Comparative Evaluation of L-PRF and Ofloxacin Incorporated L-PRF as an Adjunctive to SRP-A Split-Mouth Randomized Clinical Trial.

Aim And Objectives: To compare and evaluate the clinical efficacy of "ofloxacin incorporated L-PRF" and "L-PRF alone" when used as an adjuvant to non-surgical periodontal therapy.

Hence, the present study was planned to compare the rate of canine retraction between self-ligating and conventional brackets and to determine the amount of anchorage loss during canine retraction.

Mucormycosis in COVID-19 patients - A case series from a dental college in South India.

Introduction: Incidence of mucormycosis has increased recently due to rapid spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is a hyper-ferritemic state paving a way for easy growth of mucor species. COVID-19 infection results in an immunocompromised state due to the steroid therapy administered to patients and the infection itself. The presence of co-morbidities makes patients more susceptible to acquire mucor infection.

Estimation of the calcium content of intact tooth by decalcification and ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid method - A analytical quantitative study.

Background: Teeth, one of the strongest structures of the human body, stands as reliable evidence in forensic odontology. The gender and age can be estimated from a tooth using various methods. We aimed to estimate the calcium content of an intact tooth and compare it with its average weight and dimension and also to find the possible correlation with the age and gender of an individual.

Ectopic Tooth with Odontogenic Keratocyst in Myasthenia Gravis: A Rare Coexistence.

Ectopic tooth in nondentate areas is uncommon. Odontogenic keratocyst arising from impacted tooth in the inferior border of orbit is very rare. This article reports the case of a 22-year-old female with odontogenic keratocyst arising from an impacted left maxillary third molar in the inferior border of the orbit causing symptoms of chronic sinusitis.

Assessment of Ploidy Status in Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders - A Systematic Review.

Malignant and potentially malignant epithelial lesions are often associated with various abnormalities such as epithelial dysplasia, abnormal DNA content, loss of heterozygosity, and chromosomal number aberrations. Screening and early detection of such abnormalities facilitates proper care and also helps to prevent further progression of potentially malignant lesions to malignancy. In such way, the presence of DNA aneuploidy in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) may serve as an indicator for the malignant transforming potential.

The Role of Supraerupted and Distoverted Maxillary Third Molars in the Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorder: A Randomised Controlled Trial.

Objective Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a multifactorial disease that is classified into muscular and joint disorders. The etiology of TMD is unknown but it is related to various factors such as bruxism, uncorrected high dental restorations, and occlusal prematurities. This study aims to provide treatment modalities for TMD patients with supraerupted and/or distoverted maxillary third molars that have premature contact with the opposing arch.

Effect of aging and thermocycling on flexural strength of PEEK as a provisional restoration for full mouth rehabilitation - An study.

Introduction: To compare the flexural strength of autopolymerizing poly methyl methacrylate resins (PMMA) resin, CAD/CAM milled PMMA and CAD/CAM milled poly ether ether ketone (PEEK) when used as provisional restorative materials for long span situations in full mouth rehabilitation after aging and thermocycling.

Materials And Methods: Sixty samples (25 mm × 2 mm × 2 mm) were fabricated using autopolymerizing PMMA resin (GROUP I), CAD/CAM milled PMMA (GROUP II) and PEEK (GROUP III). The groups were subdivided into A and B and subjected to 7 days of aging and 500 cycles of thermocycling (subgroup A) and 14 days of aging and 1000 cycles of thermocycling (subgroup B), respectively, and flexural strength was evaluated using a three-point bend test.
