Background: From March 7 to April 7, 2020, the Community of Madrid (CoM), Spain, issued interventions in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, including hospital referral triage protocols for long-term care facility (LTCF) residents (March 18-25). Those with moderate to severe physical disability and cognitive impairment were excluded from hospital referral. This research assesses changes in the association between daily hospital referrals and the deaths of LTCF residents attributable to the triage protocols.

Thermoresponsive self-assembled nanogels were conveniently prepared by cholesterol end-capped poly(-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) in water. Both cholesterol end-capped PNIPAMs (telelchelic cholesterol PNIPAM, tCH-PNIPAM) formed flower-like nanogels by the self-assembling of four to five polymer chains with multiple domains of cholesterol in water at 20 °C. Meanwhile, one end-group cholesterol-capped PNIPAM (semitelechelic cholesterol PNIPAM, stCH-PNIPAM) was also formed as a nanogel by the self-assembling of 15-20 polymer chains with 3 to 4 cholesterol domains.

Using the surface force apparatus (SFA), the interaction forces between mica surfaces across ionic liquid (IL) solutions are studied. The IL solution, 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide in propylene carbonate solvent, is used at different concentrations to elucidate the ions' conformation at the interface from the analysis of short-range structural forces. A direct correlation between the ion layer thickness at the interface and the IL molar fraction in the solution is observed, suggesting conformational changes relative to the ion packing density.

Hydrogen yields of dark fermentation are limited due to the need to also produce reduced side products, and photofermentation, an alternative, is limited by the need for light. A relatively new strategy, dark microaerobic fermentation, could potentially overcome both these constraints. Here, application of this strategy demonstrated for the first time significant hydrogen production from lactate by a single organism in the dark.

We demonstrate an electrochromic device with self-bleaching ability that uses ethyl viologen- ([EV]) and ferrocene-based redox ionic liquids ([FcNTf]) as the electroactive species. These electroactive compounds are insensitive to atmospheric O and HO in both their oxidized and reduced states once dissolved in a typical ionic liquid electrolyte ([BMIm][NTf]), allowing for the device to be assembled outside a glovebox without any encapsulation. Mixotrophic growth of microalgae to boost lipid production is currently under active investigation. Such a process could be of practical importance if a cheap source of organic carbon, such as waste glycerol from biodiesel production, could be used. Serotonin (5-HT) uptake sites, or transporters, were measured in the neostriatum (caudate putamen) of wild type (+/+) mice and heterozygous (wv/+) and homozygous (wv/wv) weaver, as well as in heterozygous Lurcher (Lc/+) mutants. These topological surveys were carried out by quantitative ligand binding autoradiography using the uptake site antagonist [3H]-citalopram as a probe of innervation densities in four quadrants of the rostral neostriatum and in two halves of the caudal neostriatum. In addition, tissue concentrations of 5-HT, 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid and 5-hydroxytryptophol were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection in these neostriatal divisions.
