Due to the importance of biaryls as natural products, drugs, agrochemicals, dyes, or organic electronic materials, a green alternative biaryl synthesis has been developed based on easy-to-prepare and cheap copper(I)-exchanged zeolite catalysts. Cu-USY proved to efficiently catalyze the direct homocoupling of either phenols or aryl boronic acids under simple and practical conditions. The Cu-USY-catalyzed oxidative homocoupling of phenols could conveniently be performed under air either in warm methanol or water with good to high yields.

Genomic and ancient DNA data have revolutionized palaeoanthropology and our vision of human evolution, with indisputable landmarks like the sequencing of Neanderthal and Denisovan genomes. Yet, using genetic data to identify, date and quantify evolutionary events-such as ancient bottlenecks or admixture-is not straightforward, as inferences may depend on model assumptions. In the last two decades, the idea that Neanderthals and members of the Homo sapiens lineage interbred has gained momentum.

Multiple myeloma treatment has evolved significantly with the introduction of triplet and quadruplet regimens, notably incorporating anti-CD38 antibodies. While autologous stem cell transplantation remains a cornerstone of therapy, its role in the context of increasingly effective upfront treatments is debated. Current guidelines still recommend transplant for all eligible patients, especially those with high-risk features at diagnosis, despite concerns regarding the lack of overall survival benefits and the potential long-term toxicities associated with high-dose melphalan.

Background: The reported massive decline of arthropods and particularly of pollinators such as wild bees, in terms of abundance and richness, is a threat for crop production and wild plant biodiversity conservation. This decline is mainly explained by a combination of drivers at local- and landscape-scale related to intensive farming practices. Assessing the evolution of wild bee communities in agricultural ecosystems and their response to such practices is needed to address conservation purposes.

Introduction: Adolescents face unique challenges in accessing appropriate information and services regarding sexuality and reproductive health (SRH). This poor access can lead to sexual behaviours that could put them at risk of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) have specific SRH needs that remain unmet.

Pollution from pesticides is an increasing concern for human health and biodiversity conservation. However, there is lack of knowledge about some emerging molecules such as SDHI fungicides (succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors) that are widely used but potentially highly toxic for vertebrates. Boscalid, fluopyram, and bixafen are 3 frequent SDHI molecules commonly detected in surface waters, which may pose risks to aquatic species.

This study investigates the intricate effects of lithology, temperature, discharge, and land use changes on headwater stream chemistry by analysing two decades of hydrochemical data from twenty karst headwater catchments in the Garonne River basin, France. Focused on the Pyrenees and the lowland (LM) and upland (UM) regions of the Massif Central, this study identified significant regional variations and commonalities in water chemistry. The headwater streams were clustered based on their hydrological and hydrochemical profiles, revealing strong similarities between upland sites, i.

Why aggressive traits evolve in some species but not in others is poorly understood. We modeled the population dynamics of the extinct Mauritius dodo and Rodrigues solitaire to examine divergent pathways in the evolution of aggression. Whereas the dodo conformed to island syndrome predictions of tameness, its sister-taxon the solitaire evolved strong sexual dimorphism and aggressive traits.

Stinging ants have diversified into various ecological niches, and selective pressures may have contributed to shape the composition of their venom. To explore the drivers underlying venom variation in ants, we sampled 15 South American rainforest species and recorded a range of traits, including ecology, morphology and venom bioactivities. Principal component analysis of both morphological and venom bioactivity traits reveals that stinging ants display two functional strategies where species have evolved towards either an exclusively offensive venom or a multi-functional venom.

Antigen cross-presentation is the process whereby small peptides derived from exogenous antigens are attached to MHC-I molecules triggering CD8+ T lymphocyte activation. The endocytic route of dendritic cells (DCs) is highly specialised for cross-presentation to initiate cytotoxic immune responses against numerous intracellular pathogens and tumours. In this study, we identify the endosomal protein sorting nexin (SNX) 17 as a key regulator of antigen internalisation and cross-presentation by DCs.

Purpose: Whether skin disinfection of the surgical site using chlorhexidine-alcohol is superior to povidone-iodine-alcohol in reducing reoperation and surgical site infection rates after major cardiac surgery remains unclear.
Methods: CLEAN 2 was a multicenter, open-label, randomized, two-arm, assessor-blind, superiority trial conducted in eight French hospitals. We randomly assigned adult patients undergoing major heart or aortic surgery via sternotomy, with or without saphenous vein or radial artery harvesting, to have all surgical sites disinfected with either 2% chlorhexidine-alcohol or 5% povidone-iodine-alcohol.

Landscape heterogeneity is known as a major factor of community structure and composition. Whether this effect of the landscape extends at different scales and particularly at the relevant scale for microorganisms remained to be determined. We used the cases produced by aquatic larvae of Trichoptera, which assemble organic or mineral particles, as naturally replicated experimental systems representing structured substrates to determine the effect of landscape structuration on microbial communities.

Luminescence (nano)thermometry has exploded in popularity, offering a remote detection way to measure temperature across diverse fields like nanomedicine, microelectronics, catalysis, and plasmonics. A key advantage is its supposed immunity to strong electromagnetic fields, a crucial feature in many environments. However, this assumption lacks comprehensive experimental verification as most of the proposed luminescent thermometers rely on magnetic ions, such as lanthanides.
