NLRP3 is a pattern recognition receptor with a well-documented role in inducing inflammasome assembly in response to cellular stress. Deregulation of its activity leads to many inflammatory disorders including gouty arthritis, Alzheimer disease, and cancer. Whereas its role in the context of cancer has been mostly explored in the immune compartment, whether NLRP3 exerts functions unrelated to immunity in cancer development remains unexplored.

During the course of evolution, variations of a protein sequence is an ongoing phenomenon however limited by the need to maintain its structural and functional integrity. Deciphering the evolutionary path of a protein is thus of fundamental interest. With the development of new methods to visualize high dimension spaces and the improvement of phylogenetic analysis tools, it is possible to study the evolutionary trajectories of proteins in the sequence space.

TSPO and amyloid deposits in sub-regions of the hippocampus in the 3xTgAD mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

Neurobiol Dis

January 2019

Division of Adult Psychiatry, Department of Mental Health and Psychiatry, University Hospitals of Geneva, Switzerland; Department of Psychiatry, University of Geneva, Switzerland. Electronic address:

The involvement of the 18kDa translocator protein (TSPO), a marker of neuroinflammation, in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains controversial. In the present report, we used [I]-CLINDE, a SPECT TSPO radiotracer never before used in AD, and we investigated the relationship between TSPO and amyloid plaque density (using [I]-DRM106) in a triple transgenic mouse model of AD (3xTgAD, APP, PS1 and Tau). Our results show that TSPO increases appear before those of amyloid deposits.

In the present work, we have studied the universal critical behavior in the perovskite-manganite compound LaCaPbMnAlSnO. Experimental results revealed that all samples exhibit a second-order magnetic phase transition. To study the critical behavior of the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition, various techniques such as modified Arrott plots, the Kouvel-Fisher method and critical isotherm analysis were used to determine the values of the Curie temperature , as well as the critical exponents (corresponding to the spontaneous magnetization), (corresponding to the initial susceptibility) and (corresponding to the critical magnetization isotherm).

Magnetic Anisotropy in Pentacoordinate Ni and Co Complexes: Unraveling Electronic and Geometrical Contributions.

Chemistry

March 2017

Institut de Chimie Moléculaire et des Matériaux O'Orsay, CNRS, Université Paris Sud 11, Université Paris Saclay, 91405, Orsay Cedex, France.

The magnetic properties of the pentacoordinate [M (Me cyclam)N ] (Me cyclam=tetramethylcyclam; N =azido; M=Ni, Co) complexes were investigated. Magnetization and EPR studies indicate that they have an easy plane of magnetization with axial anisotropy parameters D close to 22 and greater than 30 cm for the Ni and Co complexes, respectively. Ab initio calculations reproduced the experimental values of the zero-field splitting parameters and allowed the orientation of the anisotropy tensor axes with respect to the molecular frame to be determined.
