Institute of Organic Chemistry PAS: Instytut Chemii Organicznej Polskiej Akademii Nauk, Institute of Organic Chemistry, Kasprzaka 44/52, 01-224, Warsaw, POLAND.

Herein, we report the synthesis and chiroptical characteristics of the first (double) helicenes possesing the 1,4-dihydropyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole (DHPP) moiety as their central core. We have developed a three-step synthesis with 6π-electrocyclization accompanied with HBr elimination as its key step. We found that, whereas for smaller periphereal arms double 6π-electrocyclization occurs smoothly forming a double helicene, in the case of longer policyclic aromatic hydrocarbons the reaction becomes less efficient and mono-helicenes are the only products.

A novel coordination motif comprising [4]helicene fused with pyrazino-phenanthroline (H4PP) has been synthesized and reacted with ReCl(CO)5 to yield its rhenium(I) complex (Re-H4PP). Absorption and emission spectroscopic analysis conducted in dichloromethane and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran reveals that combining pyrazino-phenanthroline with helicene visibly affects the photophysical attributes of both the resulting ligand and its Re(I) complex as compared to their non-helicene analogues, and even more importantly leads to relatively high photoluminescence quantum yield values, especially in the case of H4PP (29%). Chiroptical studies through electronic circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence performed on enantiomerically enriched samples of Re-H4PP show the chiral nature of low-energy excited states affording notable glum values that amplify at cryogenic temperatures.

Electronic address:

This article explores the potential iatrogenic impact of institutional care on patients suffering from anorexia nervosa, based on a perspective drawn from the human and social sciences. In particular, it highlights the social mechanisms - such as the collision of intentions, pathological emulation, stigmatization and identity dedifferentiation - that can aggravate pathology in the hospital setting. Four recommendations are put forward for rethinking care, favoring a more holistic and less iatrogenic approach.

Unlabelled: Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is crucial to prevent their progression. In this study, we proposed the analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based on features including; hippocampus (HC) area size, HC grayscale statistics and texture features (mean, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis, contrast, correlation, energy, homogeneity, entropy), lateral ventricle (LV) area size, gray matter area size, white matter area size, cerebrospinal fluid area size, patient age, weight, and cognitive score. Five machine learning classifiers; K-nearest neighborhood (KNN), support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), decision tree (DT), and multi-layer perception (MLP) were used to distinguish between groups: cognitively normal (CN) vs AD, early MCI (EMCI) vs late MCI (LMCI), CN vs EMCI, CN vs LMCI, AD vs EMCI, and AD vs LMCI.

Self-initiated sensory action effects are widely assumed to lead to less intense perception and reduced neural responses compared to externally triggered stimuli (sensory attenuation). However, it is unclear if sensory attenuation occurs in all cases of action-effect prediction. Specifically, when predicted action-effects are relevant to determine follow-up actions attenuation could be detrimental.

The impact of CBz-PAI interlayer in various HTL-based flexible perovskite solar cells: A drift-diffusion numerical study.

Heliyon

May 2024

Aix-Marseille Université, CNRS, Institut Matériaux Microélectronique Nanosciences de Provence, Faculté de Saint Jérôme, 13397 Marseille Cedex 20, France.

In perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the charge carrier recombination obstacles mainly occur at the ETL/perovskite and HTL/perovskite interfaces, which play a decisive role in the solar cell performance. Therefore, this study aims to enhance the flexible PSC (FPSC) efficiency by adding the newly designed CBz-PAI-interlayer (simply CBz-PAI-IL) at the perovskite/HTL interface. In addition, substantial work has been carried out on five different HTLs (Se/Te-CuO, CuGaO, VO and CuSCN, including conventional Spiro-OMeTAD as a reference HTL with and without CBz-PAI-IL), using drift-diffusion simulation to find suitable FPSC design to attain the maximum PCE.
