A straightforward synthetic route towards DAB-1 scaffolded dimeric iminosugars is described here, starting from readily available bis-glycosylamines. The method allows the integration of a variety of linkages (aryl, alkyl, polyethyleneglycol chains) between both iminosugars through the choice of the bis-amine used in the first step. Moreover, an additional substituent (allyl, ethynyl) may be inserted into the structure via nucleophilic addition of an organometallic reagent to the starting bis-glycosylamine.

Studying exoplanet atmospheres is essential for assessing their potential to host liquid water and their capacity to support life (their habitability). Each atmosphere uniquely influences the likelihood of surface liquid water, defining the habitable zone (HZ)-the region around a star where liquid water can exist. However, being within the HZ does not guarantee habitability, as life requires more than just liquid water.

Impairment of Microcirculation Parameters in Patients with a History of Diabetic Foot Ulcers.

Medicina (Kaunas)

December 2024

Laboratoire de Biologie Tissulaire et Ingénierie Thérapeutique, CNRS UMR 5305, 69367 Lyon, France.

: According to the International Working Group on Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) risk classification, the estimated risk of developing a diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is much higher in patients with a history of DFUs (Grade 3) compared to those with a peripheral neuropathy but without a history of DFUs (Grades 1 and 2). It has been suggested that microcirculation impairment is involved in DFU genesis and could be taken into account to refine the existing risk classification. The aim of this study was to evaluate microcirculation parameters in patients with diabetes according to their estimated DFU risk.

An electromagnetic vibration energy harvester with a 2:1:2 internal resonance (IR) is proposed, allowing for the simultaneous activation of two IRs within the system in order to enhance its performance in terms of bandwidth and harvested power. The device consists of three magnetically coupled oscillators separated by an adjustable gap to tune the system eigenfrequencies and achieve a 2:1:2 IR. Numerical investigations are conducted to predict the behavior of the proposed device, and a multi-objective optimization procedure is employed to enhance the harvester's performance by introducing mass perturbations.

This short review bridges two biological fields: ribosomes and nucleosomes-two nucleoprotein assemblies that, along with many viruses, share proteins featuring long filamentous segments at their N- or C-termini. A central hypothesis is that these extensions and tails perform analogous functions in both systems. The evolution of these structures appears closely tied to the emergence of regulatory networks and signaling pathways, facilitating increasingly complex roles for ribosomes and nucleosome alike.
