Personal protective equipment, including lead jackets and glasses, is common, but the use of radiation protective lead caps is inconsistent. : A systematic review qualitative assessment of five observational studies using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines protocol was performed.

Tranexamic acid for the prevention of blood loss after cesarean section: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Objective: Tranexamic acid is a cost-effective intervention for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage among women who undergo cesarean delivery, but the evidence to support its use is conflicting. We conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tranexamic acid in low- and high-risk cesarean deliveries.

A global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), mounted a substantial threat to public health worldwide. It initially emerged as a mere outbreak in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and quickly engulfed the entire world, evolving into a global pandemic, consuming millions of lives and leaving a catastrophic effect on our lives in ways unimaginable. The entire healthcare system was significantly impacted and HIV healthcare was not spared.

Effect of Acetazolamide as Add-On Diuretic Therapy in Patients With Heart Failure: A Meta-Analysis.

The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the effectiveness of acetazolamide as an add-on diuretic therapy in patients with heart failure. This meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) guidelines. A systematic literature search was independently performed by two authors using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews to identify relevant studies assessing the use of acetazolamide in patients with heart failure.

Effects of Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) and Gastroprotective NSAIDs on the Gastrointestinal Tract: A Narrative Review.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used for their anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic properties. However, their use is often associated with gastrointestinal tract (GIT) side effects due to the inhibition of both cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2 enzymes, leading to a decrease in gastroprotective prostaglandins (PG). To minimize these adverse effects, various approaches have been explored, including selective COX-2 inhibitors, NO-NSAIDs (nitric oxide-releasing NSAIDs), and dual COX/LOX (lipoxygenase) NSAIDs.

Effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on surgery for indeterminate thyroid nodules (THYCOVID): a retrospective, international, multicentre, cross-sectional study.

Background: Since its outbreak in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has diverted resources from non-urgent and elective procedures, leading to diagnosis and treatment delays, with an increased number of neoplasms at advanced stages worldwide. The aims of this study were to quantify the reduction in surgical activity for indeterminate thyroid nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic; and to evaluate whether delays in surgery led to an increased occurrence of aggressive tumours.

Methods: In this retrospective, international, cross-sectional study, centres were invited to participate in June 22, 2022; each centre joining the study was asked to provide data from medical records on all surgical thyroidectomies consecutively performed from Jan 1, 2019, to Dec 31, 2021.

A Gut-Wrenching Feeling: Overcoming Cognitive Biases in an Atypical Presentation of Chronic Mesenteric Ischemia.

Chronic mesenteric ischemia is a rare but serious condition that can present with a variety of symptoms, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. Our case report presents a 63-year-old male with a past medical history of generalized anxiety disorder, Barrett's esophagus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with active smoking who initially presented with severe diffuse abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and chronic diarrhea resulting in malnutrition and 40-pound weight loss over a six-month span. The patient underwent extensive diagnostic evaluation and was diagnosed with Yersinia gastroenteritis via gastroenteritis panel (GI Panel), explaining all of the patient's symptoms.

An Unusual Case of Blackout in a COVID-19 Patient: COVID-19 Brain Fog.

This case report highlights a unique case of brain fog in a COVID-19 patient suggesting COVID-19's neurotropic nature. COVID-19 is associated with a long-COVID syndrome that presents with cognitive decline and fatigue. Recent studies show the emergence of a novel syndrome known as post-acute COVID syndrome or long COVID, which constitutes a variety of symptoms that continue for four weeks following the onset of a COVID-19 diagnosis.

Perception of Dental House Officers regarding Endodontic File Separation during Endodontic Treatment.

Background: Despite of having improved endodontic file designs as well as the reinforced metal alloy file structure, intracanal endodontic file separation (EFS) is still a very problematic and worrisome dental incident, which usually occurs without any visible signs of permanent deformation. Further, there have been conflicting reports regarding the clinical significance of leaving separated files within root canals.

Aims: The aim of this study was to look into the current perceptions and awareness about file separation during endodontic treatment among the dental house officers (DHOs).

Efficacy and Safety of Favipiravir in Treating COVID-19 Patients: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Control Trials.

This meta-analysis was conducted with the aim to assess the safety and efficacy of favipiravir in treating patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It was carried out in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We performed a thorough search of online databases including PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library from their inceptions to November 30, 2022, using the following search terms: "Favipiravir" AND "COVID-19".

Quality of Life of Post-renal Transplant Patients in Rawalpindi.

Objectives The objective is to assess the overall quality of life (QoL) in patients who had undergone renal transplant within the last three years and correlate this index with various demographic variables such as age, gender, marital status, and education level and to correlate the QoL score calculated vs. the health status perceived by the patients themselves Materials and methods This was an analytical cross-sectional study, carried out over a period of five months. A total of 123 patients were targeted among which data from 79 patients were gathered including all the patients that underwent kidney transplantation in the past three years at a renal transplant center in CMH, Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

A Rare Initial Presentation of Aortic Intramural Hematoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Aortic intramural hematoma (AIH) is a life-threatening emergency that involves aortic wall integrity and is characterized by either a direct rupture of the vasa vasorum or spontaneous bleeding of an arterial plaque located in the tunica media of the aortic wall. A notable difference between AIH and acute aortic dissection is the absence of an intimal flap, a finding discernable on computed tomography angiography (CTA). Follow-up imaging allows for the monitoring of disease progression or early findings of impending complications.

Small Bowel Adenocarcinoma: A Rare Case of Iron Deficiency Anemia.

Neoplasms of the small bowel are relatively rare, with less than 5% occurrence among other GI cases. Primary adenocarcinoma, an aggressive sub-type of small bowel cancers, usually presents with vague blood loss and abdominal pain symptoms, causing a delayed diagnosis at an advanced stage of the disease and a poor prognosis. The preferable treatment of choice is surgical resection with chemotherapy, which has shown to have survival benefits.

Objectives: Primary objective was to explore experiences of female residents of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) regarding lapses in patient safety (PS) while secondary objective was to explore factors hampering or favouring improvement of PS in OB/GYN.

Methods: In this qualitative narrative study carried out in OB/GYN department of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Lahore for six months from 1 April to 30 September 2021, six fourth-year residents were asked to write narratives of their personal experiences of medical error (witnessed or committed) in detail and reflect on those experiences, which were then transcribed. Code labels and themes were assigned manually.

Incivility in online learning environment: Perception of dental students and faculty.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to assess the extent of incivility and perception of dental students and faculty regarding uncivil behaviors in the online learning environment.

Methods: Incivility in online environment (IOLE) survey was used to collect data from dental students (n = 232) and faculty (n = 35) at Margalla Institute of Health Sciences, Rawalpindi, Pakistan from September to December 2021. A 4- point Likert scale was used for respondents to indicate their perceptions regarding incivility in IOLE, and a list of students' and faculty's uncivil behaviors.

Solitary Retroperitoneal Neurofibroma Associated With Deep Vein Thrombosis in a 40-Year-Old Male.

A neurofibroma is a benign, non-encapsulated neoplasm of the peripheral nerve sheath. These tumors are a notorious manifestation of the autosomal dominant condition known as neurofibromatosis type 1, where they present as multiple, cutaneous masses with high malignant potential. On the contrary, benign solitary retroperitoneal neurofibromas (SRN) occur without any associated conditions and have rarely been documented.
