The intimate contact between the holoparasitic plant Lophophytum mirabile (Balanophoraceae) and its host plant (Fabaceae) facilitates the exchange of genetic information, increasing the frequency of horizontal gene transfer (HGT). Lophophytum stands out because it acquired a large number of mitochondrial genes (greater than 20) from its legume host that replaced the majority of the native homologs. These foreign genes code for proteins that form multisubunit enzyme complexes, such as those in the oxidative phosphorylation system (OXPHOS) and cytochrome c maturation (ccm) system, together with dozens of nuclear-encoded subunits.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to check the risk factors for subjects with motor conduction velocity (MCV) reduction of the ulnar nerve across the elbow without symptoms/signs of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) using a database of a previous multicenter case-control study on UNE patients.

Methods: From the previous database, we extracted all asymptomatic UNE (A-UNE) and matched for age and sex with a control and UNE groups with a ratio of 1:2. Anthropometric factors were measured and all participants filled in a questionnaire on demographic, lifestyle factors, and medical history.

Coal gasification wastewater (CGW) is a typical toxic and refractory industrial wastewater with abundant phenols contained. Two identical anoxic/aerobic membrane bioreactors (with (R2) and without (R1) polyurethane (PU) foam) were carried out in parallel to investigate the role of PU foam addition in enhancing pollutants removal in CGW. Results showed that both systems exhibited effective removal of chemical oxygen demand (>93%) and total phenols (>97%) but poor ammonia nitrogen removal (<35%) constrained by ammonia oxidation process.

In this paper, new insights to improve synthetic CGW anaerobic degradation with the help of graphene under co-digestion conditions were investigated. Batch tests showed that with the addition of graphene dosage of 10 g/L and glucose as a co-substrate with chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration of 2000 mg/L, the average COD concentration decreased from 3995 mg/L on day 1 to 983 mg/L on day 12.

Atogepant is a potent, selective, oral calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist in development for migraine prevention. The chemical structure of atogepant is distinct from previous CGRP receptor antagonists, which were associated with elevated serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in clinical trials. Magnetite nanoparticles (FeO NPs) was firstly used to enhance pollutants removal during coal gasification wastewater (CGW) treatment in anaerobic digestion (AD) system. Bench-scale results revealed that 200 mg/L and 20-40 nm of FeO NPs addition resulted in a maximum removal capacity of total phenol (TPh) at a temperature of 36 °C and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 36 h. Meanwhile, FeO NPs addition reduced the oxidation reduction potential (ORP) values and biological toxicity, and enhanced the stability of AD system.

Background: Sex hormone and preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) drug interactions among transgender women (TGW), transgender men (TGM), and cisgender men (CGM) are not fully understood.

Methods: TGM and TGW on at least 6 months of stable sex hormone therapy containing testosterone or estradiol (respectively) were enrolled in a 4-week study of directly observed dosing of daily oral coformulated emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (FTC/TDF).
