The continuing evolution of SARS-CoV-2 variants challenges the durability of existing spike (S)-based COVID-19 vaccines. We hypothesized that vaccines composed of both S and nucleocapsid (N) antigens would increase the durability of protection by strengthening and broadening cellular immunity compared with S-based vaccines. To test this, we examined the immunogenicity and efficacy of wild-type SARS-CoV-2 S- and N-based DNA vaccines administered individually or together to K18-hACE2 mice.

December 2024

Facultad de Farmacia, Departamento de Química y Bioquímica, Urbanización Montepríncipe, Universidad San Pablo-CEU, CEU Universities, Boadilla del Monte, E-28668 Madrid, Spain.

Lanthanum strontium ferrite (LaSrAgFeO = 0; LSFO) and its silver-doped derivative (LaSrAgFeO = 0.05; LASFO) are synthesized using mild conditions by a sol-gel method. Both oxides present a perovskite-like structure with orthorhombic symmetry due to octahedral tilting; thus, the incorporation of silver in the A-site does not significantly modify the perovskite structure.

Article Synopsis
  • Plant communities consist of species with varying functional traits and evolutionary backgrounds, leading to the expectation that functional diversity increases with phylogenetic diversity.* -
  • Contrary to this expectation, a study of over 1.7 million vegetation plots showed that functional and phylogenetic diversity are weakly and negatively correlated, suggesting they operate independently.* -
  • Phylogenetic diversity is more pronounced in forests and reflects recent climate, while functional diversity is influenced by both past and recent climate, highlighting the need to assess both types of diversity for ecosystem studies and conservation strategies.*

Equine Fertility Group, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, CEU Universities, Carrer Lluís Vives 1, Alfara del Patriarca, Valencia 46115, Spain.

The case report discusses the implications of using different volumes of flushing media during embryo flushing (EF) procedures in a single donor mare that experienced multiple unintended pregnancies following negative EF outcomes. The study involved two sets of EF experiments over two years on a non-lactating Spanish purebred mare. The initial experiments (group 1, n = 6) used 1 L of flushing medium (Ringer´s Lactate), and subsequent tests (group 2, n = 5) increased the volume to 2 L, to assess whether a larger volume could enhance embryo recovery rates.
