Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the genetic factors linked to changes in fasting glucose levels over time in nearly 13,807 non-diabetic individuals of European descent, aiming to understand elements that could lead to Type 2 diabetes (T2D).
  • - Researchers found no strong genetic associations (defined as genome-wide significance) with fasting glucose changes, suggesting that any genetic influences are likely to be minimal.
  • - Several genetic loci previously connected to T2D and glucose levels showed nominal associations, and the data collected will serve as a resource for future research on genetic links to T2D and other metabolic traits.

The French College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (CNGOF) has released its first comprehensive recommendations for clinical practices in contraception, to provide physicians with an updated synthesis of the available data as a basis for their practice. The organizing committee and the working group adopted the objective methodological principles defined by the French Authority for Health (HAS) and selected 12 themes relevant to medical professionals' clinical practices concerning contraception. The available literature was screened through December 2017 and served as the basis of 12 texts, reviewed by experts and physicians from public and private practices, with experience in this field.

Background: Nivolumab and pembrolizumab were initially developed using weight-based regimen doses. Recently, fixed-dose regimens were commercialised with reference weights higher than the accurate weight of patients with cancer in routine practice. This may have important economic consequences for healthcare systems.

Pap tests for cervical cancer screening test and contraception: analysis of data from the CONSTANCES cohort study.

BMC Cancer

April 2019

Clinical Research Centree CIC1402, INSERM, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Medicine Poitiers University Hospital Centre, University of Poitiers, Poitiers, France.

Background: In France, a Pap test for cervical cancer screening is recommended every three years for all sexually active women aged 25 to 65 years. Modes of contraception (any or no contraception, with or without a visit to a physician, and with or without a gynecological examination) may influence adhesion to screening: women who use intrauterine device (IUD) should be more up to date with their cervical cancer screening more often than those using other means of contraception. Our objectives were to analyze the association between modes of contraception and Pap tests for screening.

Purpose: To evaluate the association between obesity phenotypes and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in non-dialysis-dependent CKD patients.

Methods: Data from the national CKD-REIN cohort which included 3033 patients with stage 3-4 CKD were used. Patients were divided into three groups: non-obese (NO) patients (BMI < 30 kg/m), metabolically healthy obese (MHO) (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m and ≤ 1 criterion NCEP/ATP III), and metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO) (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m and ≥ 2 criteria NCEP/ATP III).

Introduction: Gender norms are increasingly recognized as drivers of health and wellbeing. While early adolescence constitutes a critical window of development, there is limited understanding about how adolescents perceive gender relations across different cultural settings. This study used a mixed-method approach, grounded in the voices of young people around the world, to construct and test a cross-cultural scale assessing the perceptions of gender norms regulating romantic relationships between boys and girls in early adolescence.

Aims: Drug prescription is difficult to manage in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). We assessed the prevalence and determinants of inappropriate drug prescriptions (whether contraindications or inappropriately high doses) with regard to kidney function in patients with CKD under nephrology care. We also assessed the impact of the equation used to estimate GFR on the prevalence estimates.

People living with HIV who spontaneously control the virus without antiretroviral treatment are called HIV Controllers and their status places them at the limits of bio-clinical normality. The objective of this study was to investigate an unexplored field: HIV Controllers' quality of life (QOL). Using quantitative methods, we compared the QOL of untreated (by definition) HIV Controllers in the ANRS CO18 HIV Controller cohort study, with the QOL of treated patients in the French national survey ANRS VESPA 2.

Purpose: To describe fecundity in female survivors of childhood cancer and consider the correlation with quality of life (QOL).

Materials And Methods: Of 1744 women treated for childhood cancer before the age of 15 years at one of eight French cancer treatment centers between 1948 and 1992, 1187 who were alive in 2005 were sent a self-administered questionnaire, including questions about health status, QOL (MOS SF-36), and fecundity. A standardized fecundity ratio (SFR) was calculated (SFR: observed/expected number of children) for each individual based on a national reference.

We aimed to study the association between three different methods of assessing the amount of amniotic fluid (subjective method (SM), deepest vertical pocket (DVP) and amniotic fluid index (AFI)) and estimated fetal weight (EFW) (in percentile or Z-score) after adjustment on maternal-fetal parameters. We performed a nationwide cross-sectional study through the French network of obstetric sonographers using the "flash" study method and including low-risk singleton pregnancies from 18-40 weeks. Crude and adjusted odds ratio were computed after stratification upon 2 and 3 trimester of pregnancy.
