Background: Breast reconstruction practices, predominantly implant-based, have evolved, with meshes aiding in overcoming traditional limitations. However, data comparing mesh-assisted prepectoral reconstruction with implants alone are lacking. This study aimed to assess whether synthetic meshes in prepectoral reconstruction impact postoperative complications.

Background: Proton therapy (PRT) is an innovative radiotherapeutic modality for the treatment of cancer with unique ballistic properties. The depth-dose distribution of a proton beam reduces exposure of healthy tissues to radiations, compared with photon-therapy (XRT). To date, only few indications for proton-therapy, like pediatric cancers, chordomas, or intra-ocular neoplasms, are reimbursed by Health systems.

The Zika virus (ZIKV), an arbovirus within the Flavivirus genus, is associated with severe neurological complications, including Guillain-Barré syndrome in affected individuals and microcephaly in infants born to infected mothers. With no approved vaccines or antiviral treatments available, there is an urgent need for effective therapeutic options. This study aimed to identify new natural compounds with inhibitory potential against the NS2B-NS3 protease (PDB ID: 5LC0), an essential enzyme in viral replication.

Purpose: Mucormycosis is a rare but emerging and life-threatening infection caused by environmental mold, with a mortality rate of 30-70% despite progress in management. A better understanding could improve its management.
Method: We conducted a single-center retrospective study of all cases of mucormycosis observed over a decade at the University Hospital of Caen.

Specific determinants associated with Uropathogenic (UPEC) causing recurrent cystitis are still poorly characterized. Using strains from a previous clinical study (Vitale study, clinicaltrials.gov, identifier NCT02292160) the aims of this study were (i) to describe genomic and phenotypic traits associated with recurrence using a large collection of recurrent and paired sporadic UPEC isolates and (ii) to explore within-host genomic adaptation associated with recurrence using series of 2 to 5 sequential UPEC isolates.

Hairy cell proliferations represent very different entities. They include hairy cell leukemia in its classic form (HCL), a well-defined entity, but also the variant form of HCL (LT-V ou HCL-V), whose presentation is far from HCL and whose prognosis is poorer. Other hairy cell proliferations include splenic red pulp lymphoma (SDRPL) and splenic marginal zone lymphomas (SMZL) with circulating villous cells.

For several years, our society has been experiencing an aging of the population. Concurrently, there has been an observable increase in the population of nursing homes (EHPAD). The context of a global epidemic and the public health measures implemented to address it have underscored the vulnerability of our elderly population and the need for remote consultations to ensure continuity of care.

Background And Purpose: Interferon (IFN) signaling plays an important role in antitumor immune responses. Inhibitors of the DNA damage response, such as ATR inhibitors, can increase IFN signaling upon conventional radiotherapy with X-rays. However, it is not known whether such inhibitors also enhance IFN signaling after irradiation with high linear energy transfer (LET) particles.

Maintaining physical function is crucial for independent living in older adults, with gait speed being a key predictor of health outcomes. Blood biomarkers may potentially monitor older adults' mobility, yet their association with slow gait speed still needs to be explored. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between blood biomarkers and gait speed using the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) study biomarker dataset.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease whose pathophysiology remains incompletely understood, involving genetic and epigenetic factors. However, an increasing small subset of patients present with monogenic lupus, providing insight into the pathogenesis of the disease. This systematic review focuses on SLE associated with A20 haploinsufficiency (HA20), a monogenic disorder associated with tumor necrosis factor alpha-induced protein 3 gene (TNFAIP3) variants.

This review attempts to analyze the relationship between the vestibular system and the circadian timing system. The activity of the biological clock allows an organism to optimally perform its tasks throughout the nychtemeron. To achieve this, the biological clock is subjected to exogenous factors that entrain it to a 24h period.

Introduction: Several cases of radio-induced neurotrophic keratitis had been observed after proton therapy delivering a mean corneal dose of ≥50 GyRBE. We conducted a prospective exploratory study to assess corneal sensitivity in subsequent patients undergoing proton therapy for cephalic extraocular tumors.

Background: Knee proprioception may be compromised after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), but associated factors and impact remain unclear. This study evaluated knee proprioception 4 months after primary ACLR, compared with healthy controls, and explored the impacts of leg dominance, anterolateral procedures (AEAPs), and their association with psychological readiness to return to sports.
Methods: This prospective cohort study included 30 ACLR participants and 20 healthy controls.

F-doped TiO photocatalyst materials were prepared using solid-state and sol-gel synthesis with varying weight percentages of LiF or NHF. Subsequently, molybdate and vanadium oxide were added to the prepared powders to create composite photocatalysts with reduced bandgap energy, enhancing light absorption in the visible region of the spectrum, which is essential for effective photocatalytic activity using sunlight. The synthesized powders were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and specific surface area using the BET method.

The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) plays a pivotal role in the absorption of orally administered drugs, with the small intestine serving as the primary site due to its extensive surface area and specialized cell types, including enterocytes and M cells. After oral administration, drugs are generally transported via the portal vein to the liver, where they undergo first-pass metabolism. This process involves various enzymatic reactions, including glucuronidation, facilitated by uridine diphosphate-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT), a major phase 2 reaction in mammalian metabolism.
