Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have shown prognostic value in breast cancer. This study evaluated the TILs scores in 186 Portuguese patients diagnosed with early breast cancer, with special focus on HER2 subtype. The Adler-Becker reaction is a useful approach for the oxidative dearomatization of salicylic alcohols to spiroepoxydienones and has been applied in the total synthesis of several natural products. Despite the advantages, the substrate and product instability under the reaction conditions can decrease the reaction efficiency, leading to lower yields. Herein, we report the Adler-Becker reaction in a continuous flow for the transformation of reduced salicylaldehydes into spiroepoxydienones in a one-pot approach.

In recent years, a change in the epidemiology of meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup W (MenW) has been observed worldwide, with the emergence of new sublineages associated with a higher rate of fatal cases. The present study intends to describe the epidemiology of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) due to MenW in Portugal between 2003 and 2019, and to genetically characterize population structure. Despite MenW has a low incidence in Portugal, having almost disappeared from 2008 to 2015, since 2016, the number of MenW cases has been steadily increasing at a rate of ~ twofold per year, with more than 80% of the characterized isolates belonging to clonal complex 11 (cc11).

A series of new hydroxylated chalcone derivatives with different substitution patterns on a phenyl ring A and B, were prepared by Claisen-Schmidt condensation in an aqueous alkaline base. The antiproliferative activity of the studied compounds was evaluated against the human leukaemia cell line U-937. The structure-activity relationship of these naphthylchalcones was investigated by the introduction of one methoxy or two methyl groups on the A ring, the introduction of a methoxy group on the naphthyl ring or by varying the position of the methoxy group on the A ring.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder known for its typical motor features, the deposition of α-synuclein (αsyn)-positive inclusions in the brain, and for concomitant cellular pathologies that include oxidative stress and neuroinflammation.
