Purpose: This trial was designed and aimed to compare safety and efficacy of Obtura™ vascular closure device (VCD) to manual compression (MC) among patients undergoing transfemoral catheterization.
Material And Methods: This prospective, randomized, controlled, multicenter trial of Obtura VCD against MC randomized patients in 1:1 (n=268; 134:134) ratio. Safety and efficacy were measured by primary endpoints (time to hemostasis [TTH] and deployment success) and secondary endpoints which included technical success, device-related adverse events, and time to ambulation (TTA).

Hemostatic devices are critical for managing emergent severe bleeding. With the increased use of anticoagulant therapy, there is a need for next-generation hemostats. We rationalized that a hemostat with an architecture designed to increase contact with blood, and engineered from a material that activates a distinct and undrugged coagulation pathway can address the emerging need.

Objective Head trauma of any severity, including concussions and skull fractures, can cause a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Prognostication plays a vital role in the scenario of urgency put forth by TBI. The application of CT-based scoring systems developed by the Rotterdam CT score and Marshall classification system appears to be appropriate for the early and precise prediction of clinical outcomes in TBI patients.

Objectives: The authors sought to investigate the relationship between changing symptoms, signs, and HRQoL and outcomes by sex, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status (SES).
Methods: Using the ASIAN-HF (Asian Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure) Registry, we investigated associations between the 6-month change in a "global" symptoms and signs score (GSSS), Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire overall score (KCCQ-OS), and visual analogue scale (VAS) and 1-year mortality or HF hospitalization.

Background: Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) affects approximately 1.5% of the general population and is seen in nearly 50% of candidates for aortic valve replacement (AVR). Despite increasingly utilised transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in aortic stenosis (AS) patients, its use among patients with severe bicuspid AS is limited as BAV is a heterogeneous disease associated with multiple and complex anatomical challenges.

Primary cardiac hydatid cyst is a rare and fatal pathology, especially when involving the left ventricular free wall. A 44-year-old male was diagnosed with large intramural left ventricular hydatid cyst with wall thickness of 6 mm at the thinnest point. Cyst was accessed through pleuropericardial approach (left pleura opened, followed by entry into cyst directly through adjacent pericardium without removing the pericardial adhesions) which resulted in easy entry into the cyst, mitigating the risk of mechanical injury.

Background: The use of social media in health care may serve as a beneficial tool for education, information dissemination, telemedicine, research, networking, and communications. To better leverage the benefits of social media, it is imperative to understand the patterns of its use and potential barriers to its implementation in health care. A previous study in 2016 that investigated social media use among young clinical rheumatologists (≤45 years) and basic scientists showed that there was substantial social media use among them for social and professional reasons.

Context: Mucormycosis has been increasingly described in the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) era, however, there is a lack of robust epidemiological studies to understand the predictors for the development of mucormycosis from India.
Aims: To document the risk factors of mucormycosis with or without COVID-19 and estimate the strength of association of various risk factors.
Settings And Design: A case-control study was conducted in the Ahmedabad districts of Gujarat from June to August 2021.

Purpose: WHO recommends dolutegravir (DTG) based regimens as first-line treatment for HIV-1 infection. However, few studies have been conducted in Indian population. Hence, our study evaluated the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of DTG 50 mg with Tenofovir and Lamivudine (300/300mg) fixed dose combination in treatment naïve adult Indian patients.

Objectives: To comprehensively analyse the disease presentation and mortality of COVID-associated rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of the demographics, clinical and radiographic findings was performed. A binary logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the survival of patients with mucormycosis from hypothesised predictors.
Aims: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) continues to be a devastating complication amongst survivors of myocardial infarction (MI). Mortality is high in the initial months after MI. The aims of the INSPIRE-ELR study were to assess the proportion of patients with significant arrhythmias early after MI and the association with mortality during 12 months of follow-up.

A key recommendation is opportunistic screening for people aged ≥65 years (all countries), with systematic screening to be considered for people aged ≥75 years or who have additional risk factors (all countries).

Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common valvular congenital anomaly and is apparent in nearly 50% of candidates for AV replacement. While transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a recommended treatment for patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis (AS) at all surgical risk levels, experience with TAVI in severe bicuspid AS is limited. TAVI in BAV is still a challenge due to its association with multiple and complex anatomical considerations.

Background: Risk factors for the development of severe COVID-19 disease and death have been widely reported across several studies. Knowledge about the determinants of severe disease and mortality in the Indian context can guide early clinical management.
Methods: We conducted a hospital-based case control study across nine sites in India to identify the determinants of severe and critical COVID-19 disease.

This is a case report of a child who had acyanotic congenital heart disease - ventricular septal defect (VSD) and a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with severe pulmonary arterial hypertension. The child underwent open-heart surgery - VSD closure with PDA ligation - and six months later was re-admitted for congenital lobar emphysema of the right middle lobe. He underwent successful right middle lobectomy of the lung six months after cardiac surgery under a one-lung ventilation technique in which application of fiber-optic bronchoscope made the surgery safer and more suitable.

Background: Inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST) is an arrhythmic complication observed after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery which left untreated, commonly increases chances of postoperative stroke. The primary study objective was comparing effectiveness of beta blocker-metoprolol; a specific I blocker-ivabradine and its combination in patients who develop IST as a complication following CABG.
Materials And Methods: An open-labeled, investigator initiated, clinical study was conducted on 150 patients who developed IST (heart rate [HR] >100 beats/min) following elective CABG surgery.

ABO incompatibility is not a barrier to allogeneic stem cell transplant but may result in acute hemolytic reactions. As stem cell product manipulation is cumbersome, we are reporting the effectiveness and safety of donor-type red cell infusion as a method of reducing acute hemolytic reaction while using marrow as stem cell source. In major ABO-mismatched bone marrow transplants, manipulation of marrow product requires expertise and expensive equipment, which may not be readily available to transplant centers in low- and middle-income regions.

Background: The coral reef aorta (CRA) is a rare disease of extreme calcification in the juxtarenal aorta. These heavily calcified exophytic plaques grow into the lumen and can cause significant stenoses, leading to visceral ischaemia, renovascular hypertension, and claudication. Surgery or percutaneous intervention with stenting carries a high risk of complications and mortality.

Aims: Patients surviving an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are at risk of developing symptomatic heart failure (HF) or premature death. We hypothesized that sacubitril/valsartan, effective in the treatment of chronic HF, prevents development of HF and reduces cardiovascular death following high-risk AMI compared to a proven angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. This paper describes the study design and baseline characteristics of patients enrolled in the Prospective ARNI vs.
