Background And Objectives: Acute aortic dissection (AD) is a life-threatening condition in which early detection can significantly improve patient outcomes and survival. This study evaluates the clinical benefits of integrating a deep learning (DL)-based application for the automated detection and prioritization of AD on chest CT angiographies (CTAs) with a focus on the reduction in the scan-to-assessment time (STAT) and interpretation time (IT).
Materials And Methods: This retrospective Multi-Reader Multi-Case (MRMC) study compared AD detection with and without artificial intelligence (AI) assistance.

Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (qMRI) involves mapping microstructure in standardized units sensitive to histological properties and supplements conventional MRI, which relies on contrast weighted images where intensities have no biophysical meaning. While measuring tissue properties such as myelin, iron or water content is desired in a disease context, qMRI changes may typically reflect mixed influences from aging or pre-clinical degeneration. We used a fast multi-parameter mapping (MPM) protocol for clinical routine at 3T to reconstruct whole-brain quantitative maps of magnetization transfer saturation (MT), proton density (PD), longitudinal (R1), and transverse relaxation rate (R2*) with 1.

Seaweed farming comprises over half of global coastal and marine aquaculture production by mass; however, the future of the industry is increasingly threatened by disease outbreaks. Nature-based solutions provided by enhancing functions of coinciding species or ecosystems offer an opportunity to increase yields by reducing disease outbreaks while conserving biodiversity. Seagrass ecosystems can reduce the abundance of marine bacterial pathogens, although it remains unknown whether this service can extend to reducing disease risk in a marine resource.

Pneumatic 3D-nanomaterial printing, a prominent additive manufacturing technique, excels in processing advanced materials like MXene, crucial for applications in nano-energy, flexible electronics, and sensors. A key challenge in this domain is optimizing process parameters-applied pressure, ink concentration, nozzle diameter, and printing velocity-to achieve uniform, high-quality prints with the desired filament diameter. Traditional trial-and-error methods often result in significant material waste and time consumption.

It is widely recognized that reciprocal interactions between cells and their microenvironment, via mechanical forces and biochemical signaling pathways, regulate cell behaviors during normal development, homeostasis and disease progression such as cancer. However, it is still not well understood how complex patterns of tissue growth emerge. Here, we propose a framework for the chemomechanical regulation of growth based on thermodynamics of continua and growth-elasticity to predict growth patterns.

The GluA1 subunit, encoded by the putative schizophrenia-associated gene GRIA1, is required for activity-regulated AMPA receptor (AMPAR) trafficking, and plays a key role in cognitive and affective function. The cytoplasmic, carboxy-terminal domain (CTD) is the most divergent region across AMPAR subunits. The GluA1 CTD has received considerable attention for its role during long-term potentiation (LTP) at CA1 pyramidal neuron synapses.

Wildland fire-atmosphere interaction generates complex turbulence patterns, organized across multiple scales, which inform fire-spread behaviour, firebrand transport, and smoke dispersion. Here, we utilize wavelet-based techniques to explore the characteristic temporal scales associated with coherent patterns in the measured temperature and the turbulent fluxes during a prescribed wind-driven (heading) surface fire beneath a forest canopy. We use temperature and velocity measurements from tower-mounted sonic anemometers at multiple heights.

The Mo-nitrogenase catalyzes the reduction of N to NH at the cofactor of its catalytic NifDK component. NifEN shares considerable homology with NifDK in primary sequence, tertiary structure and associated metallocenters. Better known for its biosynthetic function to convert an all-iron precursor (L-cluster; [FeSC]) to a mature cofactor (M-cluster; [(R-homocitrate) MoFeSC]), NifEN also mimics NifDK in catalyzing substrate reduction at ambient conditions.

Previously, we identified yeast strains, namely SWORD, showing more robust Ald4p-GFP filament formation than the typical strains. Here, we report that Ald4p-GFP in SWORD strains favorably polymerize into gigantic structures in the cytoplasm, despite the enzyme being established as a mitochondrial resident. In addition, we have found that nocodazole, a microtubule destabilizer, has no effect on Ald4p high-order assembly, suggesting no direct association between microtubule dynamics and Ald4p structure formation.

Nanophotonic structures have shown promising routes to controlling and enhancing nonlinear optical processes at the nanoscale. However, most nonlinear nanostructures require a handling substrate, reducing their application scope. Due to the underwhelming heat dissipation, it has been a challenge to evaluate the nonlinear optical properties of free-standing nanostructures.

All-optical tunability of semiconductor metasurfaces offers unique opportunities for novel time-varying effects, including frequency conversion and light trapping. However, the all-optical processes often induce optical absorption that fundamentally limits the possible dynamic increase of their quality factor (Q-boosting). Here, we propose and numerically demonstrate the concept of large Q-boosting in a single-material metasurface by dynamically reducing its structural anisotropy on a femtosecond timescale.

Hollow core optical fibers of numerous guiding mechanisms have been studied in the past decades for their advantages on guiding light in air core. This work demonstrates a new hollow core optical fiber based on a different guiding mechanism, which confines light with a cladding made of epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) material through total internal reflection. We show that the addition of a layer of ENZ material coating (e.

Lesions and pharmacological inactivation of the hippocampus have long been important tools for assessing the critical role of the hippocampus in learning and memory. Such studies often require a substantial investment of time and resources and, so, a tool for estimating lesion extent and screening animals prior to histological verification would be of considerable utility. Mice with bilateral hippocampal lesions have previously been observed to be deficient at nest building.

Around 285 million people worldwide currently have type 2 diabetes and it is projected that this number will be surpassed by 2030. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to enhance our comprehension of the disease's development. The regulation of diet, obesity, and inflammation in type 2 diabetes is believed to play a crucial role in enhancing insulin sensitivity and reducing the risk of onset diabetes.
