Background: Nutritional status in pediatric patients undergoing heart transplantation (HT) is frequently a focus of clinical management and requires high resource utilization. Pre-operative nutrition status has been shown to affect post-operative mortality but no studies have been performed to assess how nutritional status may change and the risk of developing nutritional comorbidities long-term in the post-transplant period.
Methods: A single-center retrospective chart review of patients ≥2 years of age who underwent heart transplantation between 1/1/2005 and 4/30/2020 was performed.

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to examine the outcomes in children with anaplastic bilateral Wilms tumor (BWT) from study AREN0534 in order to define potential prognostic factors and areas to target in future clinical trials.
Methods: Demographic and clinical data from AREN0534 study patients with anaplasia (focal anaplasia [FA], or diffuse anaplasia [DA]) were compared. Event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were reported using Kaplan-Meier estimation with 95% confidence bands, and differences in outcomes between FA and DA compared using log-rank tests.

Objective: Existing replacement options for the aortic valve have significant drawbacks, especially in children. A geometric annuloplasty ring can help to achieve consistently successful aortic valve repair, but only limited experience with use of this device has been reported in pediatric and congenital heart disease patients.
Methods: All pediatric and adult congenital patients at our institution who underwent aortic valve repair with placement of a geometric annuloplasty ring were reviewed.

Objective: To establish a basis for a domain ontology - a formal, explicit specification of a shared conceptualization - of collaborative learning healthcare systems (CLHSs) in order to facilitate measurement, explanation, and improvement.
Methods: We adapted the "Methontology" approach to begin building an ontology of CLHSs. We specified the purpose of an ontology, acquired domain knowledge via literature review, conceptualized a common framework of CLHSs using a grounded approach, refined these concepts based on expert panel input, and illustrated concept application via four cases.

Importance: Escherichia coli is a leading cause of serious infection among term and preterm newborn infants. Surveillance of antibiotic susceptibility patterns of E coli among infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units should inform empirical antibiotic administration.
Objective: To assess the epidemiologic characteristics and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of E coli in infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units in the US over time.
Background In a recent multicenter study of perinatal outcome in fetuses with Ebstein anomaly or tricuspid valve dysplasia, we found that one third of live-born patients died before hospital discharge. We sought to further describe postnatal management strategies and to define risk factors for neonatal mortality and circulatory outcome at discharge. Methods and Results This 23-center, retrospective study from 2005 to 2011 included 243 fetuses with Ebstein anomaly or tricuspid valve dysplasia.

Background The routine use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) during palliation of hypoplastic left heart syndrome is controversial. We sought to describe ACEI prescription in the interstage between stage 1 palliation (stage I Norwood procedure) discharge and stage 2 palliation (stage II superior cavopulmonary anastomosis procedure) admission using the NPC-QIC (National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative) registry. Methods and Results Analysis of all patients (n=2180) enrolled in NPC-QIC from 2008 to 2016 included preoperative anatomy, risk factors, and echocardiographic data.

We describe the landscape of surgical management across the United States, perioperative risk factors, and surgical outcomes in patients with T13 and T18. Methods and Results Patients in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database with T13 and T18 who underwent cardiac surgery (2010-2017) were included.

Background In shunt-dependent, single-ventricle patients, mortality remains high in the interstage period between discharge after neonatal surgery and stage 2 operation. We sought to evaluate the impact of our infant single-ventricle management and monitoring program ( ISVMP ) on interstage mortality and stage 2 outcomes. Methods and Results This retrospective single-center cohort study compared patients enrolled in ISVMP at hospital discharge with historical controls.

Purpose: To retrospectively compare image quality and radiation dose between a reduced-dose computed tomographic (CT) protocol that uses model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) and a standard-dose CT protocol that uses 30% adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) with filtered back projection.
Materials And Methods: Institutional review board approval was obtained. Clinical CT images of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis obtained with a reduced-dose protocol were identified.

Background: We have observed that day-to-day use of US for acute appendicitis does not perform as well as described in the literature.
Objective: Review the diagnostic performance of US in acute appendicitis with attention to factors that influence performance.
Materials And Methods: Retrospective review of all sonograms for acute appendicitis in children from May 2005 to May 2010 with attention to the rate of identification of the appendix, training of personnel involved and diagnostic accuracy.

Aim: To review human and animal data describing the complex interrelation between obesity hypertension, salt-sensitivity and insulin resistance.
Data Synthesis: The first part of the article reviews the information available in the literature defining obesity hypertension as a salt sensitive form of hypertension and that links obesity hypertension to the presence of insulin. The second part reviews the four factors frequently cited as possible causes for this sodium retention: insulin resistance, alteration in the renin-angiotensin system, altered vascular responsiveness and alterations in the sympathetic nervous system.
