Medicine formulations at the nanoscale, referred to as nanomedicines, have managed to overcome key challenges encountered during the development of new medical treatments and entered clinical practice, but considerable improvement in terms of local efficacy and reduced toxicity still need to be achieved. Currently, the fourth-generation of nanomedicines is being developed, employing biocompatible nanocarriers that are targeted, multifunctional, and stimuli-responsive. Proteins and polypeptides can fit the standards of an efficient nanovector because of their biodegradability, intrinsic bioactivity, chemical reactivity, stimuli-responsiveness, and ability to participate in complex supramolecular assemblies.

The therapeutic effects of molecules produced by the plant species Cannabis sativa have since their discovery captured the interest of scientists and society, and have spurred the development of a multidisciplinary scientific field with contributions from biologists, medical specialists and chemists. Decades after the first isolation of some of the most bioactive tetrahydrocannabinols, current research is mostly dedicated to exploiting the chemical versatility of this relevant compound class with regard to its therapeutic potential. This review will primarily focus on synthetic pathways utilised for the synthesis of tetrahydrocannabinols and derivatives thereof, including chiral pool-based and asymmetric chemo- and biocatalytic approaches.

Migraine is a highly disabling neurovascular disorder characterized by a severe headache (associated with nausea, photophobia and/or phonophobia), and trigeminovascular system activation involving the release of calcitonin-gene related peptide (CGRP). Novel anti-migraine drugs target CGRP signaling through either stimulation of 5-HT receptors on trigeminovascular nerves (resulting in inhibition of CGRP release) or direct blockade of CGRP or its receptor. Lasmiditan is a highly selective 5-HT receptor agonist and, unlike the triptans, is devoid of vasoconstrictive properties, allowing its use in patients with cardiovascular risk.

Pathway dependent shape-transformation of azide-decorated polymersomes.

Here we report the shape transformation of poly(ethylene glycol)-polystyrene (PEG-PS) polymersomes into ordered inverse morphologies, directed by the salt concentration of the medium and the presence of azide groups on the polymersome surface. The azide moieties introduced at the chain ends of the PEG blocks induce a difference in hydrodynamic volume of the hydrophilic domains at the inner and outer side of the vesicular membrane, allowing control over its spontaneous curvature and hence the pathway of shape deformation. This simple modification enables access to intricate morphologies which are traditionally only accessible via the application of complex polymer building blocks.

Background: Breast density and body mass index (BMI) are used for breast cancer risk stratification. We evaluate whether the positive association between volumetric breast density and breast cancer risk is strengthened with increasing BMI.

Methods: The San Francisco Mammography Registry and Mayo Clinic Rochester identified 781 premenopausal and 1850 postmenopausal women with breast cancer diagnosed between 2007 and 2015 that had a screening digital mammogram at least 6 months prior to diagnosis.

The study objective was to assess US physicians' Mismatch Repair/Microsatellite Instability (MMR/MSI) testing practices for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients. A non-interventional, cross-sectional online survey was conducted among 151 physicians (91 oncologists, 15 surgeons and 45 pathologists) treating mCRC patients in the US. Eligible physicians were US-based with at least 5 years of experience treating CRC patients, had at least one mCRC patient in their routine care in the past 6 months, and had ordered at least one MMR/MSI test for CRC in the past 6 months.

Methods- We examined the experience of participants in the placebo group of the IRIS trial (Insulin Resistance Intervention after Stroke) with a body mass index ≥30 kg/m at entry.
