Introduction: The Fat Mass and Obesity-Associated () gene encodes a demethylase, which modulates RNA N6-methyladenosine (m6A) and plays a regulatory role in adipocyte differentiation and the pathogenesis of human obesity.

Methods: To understand the potential role of in osteoporosis (OP), we investigated five single nucleotide variations (SNVs) in intron 1 (rs8057044, rs8050136, rs9939609, rs62033406, and rs9930506) of the gene, and a missense SNV i.e.

Article Synopsis
  • - Osteoporosis (OP) affects about 30% of postmenopausal women and is often linked to metabolic syndrome (MetS), which has a controversial impact on bone health.
  • - A study involving 188 patients assessed bone mineral density (BMD), insulin resistance, and muscular strength, revealing that both normal BMD/osteopenia and OP patients exhibited varying prevalence of MetS without significant differences in insulin resistance.
  • - Findings indicate that insulin resistance negatively affects OP patients, and the relationship between MetS and bone health shifts depending on body mass index (BMI), emphasizing the importance of considering obesity levels when analyzing OP in postmenopausal women.

Bilateral inguinal hernia is a distinct entity in the inguinal hernia category. Open and minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of bilateral inguinal hernia have been previously described. If resources and surgeon expertise are available, guidelines recommend laparoscopic repair for this entity.

Leptomeningeal metastases (LM) are a rare but rapidly fatal complication defined by the spread of tumor cells within the leptomeninges and the subarachnoid space, found in approximately 10% of patients with HER2-positive breast cancers. This pilot study evaluated the efficacy of local treatment with intrathecal Trastuzumab (IT) added to systemic treatment. The oncologic outcome of 14 patients with HER2-positive LM is reported.

The microbiota is the complex community of microorganisms that populate a particular environment in the human body, whereas the microbiome is defined by the entire habitat-microorganisms and their environment. The most abundant and, therefore, the most studied microbiome is that of the gastrointestinal tract. However, the microbiome of the female reproductive tract is an interesting research avenue, and this article explores its role in disease development.

This study aimed to assess the impact of clinical prognostic factors and propose a prognostic score that aids the clinician's decision in estimating the risk for patients in clinical practice. The study included 195 patients diagnosed with ovarian adenocarcinoma. The therapeutic strategy involved multidisciplinary decisions: surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy (80%), neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery (16.

Background: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays an important role in tumor progression in ovarian cancer, but the complex mechanism and interaction with oxidative stress are not fully understood.

Methods: A prospective study included 52 patients with ovarian adenocarcinoma stage IIIA-IV. Serum VEGF and reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as malondialdehyde and ceruloplasmin were measured.

Background: Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) has witnessed an increase in incidence and although it is considered to have a slow grow potential and a 90% 10-year survival rate, local or distant metastases can be observed in 20%. It is essential to recognize other factors associated with malignancy and poor prognosis. Vitamin D and its deficiency has proven useful as a prognostic biomarker for many types of cancer, including thyroid cancer.

Introduction: In Romania, there is no acromegaly national register and there are no nationwide data available. However, some studies have reported the control rates in the country's main referral centres. Our aim was to assess the overall control rate in our tertiary referral centre.

CLINICAL PROGNOSTIC FACTORS IN PRE- AND POST-MENOPAUSAL WOMEN WITH OVARIAN CARCINOMA.

Acta Endocrinol (Buchar)

January 2018

"Prof. Dr. Al. Trestioreanu" Institute of Oncology, Radiotherapy 2, "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania.

Aims: To assess the impact of prognostic factors on the outcome of ovarian carcinoma (OC) and to determine the difference between pre and postmenopausal patients.

Design: Retrospective cohort, single centre study.

Subjects And Methods: One-hundred-sixty patients with stage IC-IV OC diagnosed between 2004-2016 were included.

Introduction: Vitamin D (VD) levels were correlated with different health conditions, including reproductive disorders in males. Vitamin D action is mediated through vitamin D receptor (VDR), which acts as a transcription factor. VDR gene promoter is embedded in a GC-rich island.

Unlabelled: There are no new national growth references for the Romanian population and the current recommendations for short stature evaluation is the use of the Swiss growth charts developed based on a longitudinal study. The aim of the present paper is to present the new synthetic growth references for Romanian children.

Material And Methods: We used local Romanian data from 9 studies with information on height and weight obtained between 1999 and 2016.

Objective: Estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1) polymorphisms (XbaI and PvuII) and vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms (FokI, BsmI, ApaI and TaqI) are the most frequently studied regarding the correlations with the infertility in males, but the results are controversial. The purpose of this study is to evaluate possible correlations between hormonal markers, VDR and ESR1 genotypes and semen analysis, in order to bring new data for a better understanding of male infertility.

Subjects And Methods: 42 infertile men and 28 controls were enrolled.

Prader-Willi and Angelman syndromes are two distinct neurogenetic disorders caused by chromosomal deletions, uniparental disomy or loss of the imprinted gene expression in the 15q11-q13 region. PWS results from the lack of the paternally expressed gene contribution in the region. The aim of our study was to compare a new molecular approach based on the quantification of the expression of non-imprinted bi-allelic gene (NIPA1 and OCA2) with in house MS-PCR and the MS-MLPA test.

Aim: Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC), poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PTDC) and lymphoma are aggressive forms of neoplasia. Although all carry a poor prognosis there is an important heterogeneity of overall survival (OS) between individual patients. The decision of total thyroidectomy is often based on fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) which has important limitations in this setting.

Thyroid hormones have a non-selective permissive action on adrenergic receptors (including beta 2). Asthma is an immune disease in which some pathological pathways include beta 2 adrenergic receptor blockade. In theoretical terms, that would mean that in hyperthyroidism asthma would ameliorate.

The variation of some parameters involved in maintaining the balance between pro- and anti-oxidative factors was followed-up in a group of patients thyroidectomized for folliculo-papillary, papillary and follicular cancer, before and after 5 days following the 131I administration. Radiotherapy led to the intensification of lipid peroxidation expressed by a significant increase in the malondialdehyde values. Among the parameters involved in the antioxidative process we noted an increase in both SH nonprotein groups and ceruloplasmin concentration.

Much evidence gathered in the last years involve the free radicals (FR) in the mechanisms of initiation, development of neoplastic transformations in vivo and in vitro, as well as in the activity of specific oncogenes. Most of it comes from the fact that the agents that remove the FR or interfere in the chain of events induced by FR can inhibit the neoplastic process both at cellular and molecular level. The antioxidant and free-radical scavenging activities of vitamin C have been intensely investigated, vitamin C being considered the most important antioxidant protective agent in the plasma.

The alternative methods in human reproduction do nothing else than try to help an individual or a couple to achieve the primordial goal of life: perpetuation of the species. These methods try to reconstruct the biologic premises necessary for perpetuation by various means such as: a. in vitro fecundation correlated or not with artificial fecundation with donor, ovocyte donation, embryo donation, borrowed mother; b.
