An anatomical understanding of median nerve variation is essential for successful decompression of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Although iatrogenic injury of the thenar branch after carpal tunnel release (CTR) has not been reported in many cases, it can cause serious damage to the patient. In case of rapidly progressing thenar atrophy after CTS surgery, thenar branch of median nerve injury should be suspected.

Background: This study aimed to assess the effects of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) on distraction of the posterior ligamentum flavum (LF) by increasing the intervertebral disc height and positioning a graft in patients with degenerative cervical spine disease.

Methods: Sixty-eight patients with degenerative cervical diseases who underwent single-level ACDF were included in the analysis. The intervertebral disc height, Cobb angle, and transverse thickness of the LF were measured, and magnetic resonance imaging was performed both preoperatively and 6 weeks postoperatively on each patient.

Aim: We aimed to investigate the incidence rate and risk factors of medical device-related pressure injuries (MDRPIs) among patients undergoing prone position spine surgery.

Materials And Methods: This was a prospective observational study of 147 patients who underwent spine surgery in an orthopaedic hospital in Korea. The incidence of MDRPI according to intrinsic and extrinsic factors was assessed using the independent t-, χ -, or Fisher's exact tests.

Study Design: Retrospective case analysis.

Purpose: We hypothesized that larger the C1-C2 fusion angle, greater the severity of the sagittal malalignment of C0-C1 and C2- C7.

Overview Of Literature: In our experience, instances of sagittal malalignment occur at C0-C1 and C2-C7 following atlantoaxial fusion in patients with Os odontoideum (OO).

Study Design: Retrospective case analysis.

Purpose: We retrospectively evaluated the clinical and radiological outcomes of posterior sublaminar wiring (PSLW) and/or transarticular screw fixation (TASF) for reducible atlantoaxial instability (AAI) secondary to os odontoideum.

Overview Of Literature: Limited information is available about the surgical outcomes of symptomatic os odontoideum with AAI.

Unlabelled: We present 12 cases in which palmaris longus tendocutaneous arterialized venous free flaps were used for the reconstruction of the collateral ligament in compound defects of digits. There were nine cases involving the interphalangeal joint of the fingers and three of the interphalangeal joints of the thumb. The venous flaps survived completely in 10 of the 12 cases.

Selective laminectomy for cervical spondylotic myelopathy: a comparative analysis with laminoplasty technique.

Arch Orthop Trauma Surg

May 2017

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Haeundae Paik Hospital, Inje University, 1435, Jwa-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan, 612-030, Republic of Korea.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of selective laminectomy compared with laminoplasty for patients with multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) by evaluating the radiological and clinical outcomes.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 67 patients with who underwent posterior laminectomy (LN) or laminoplasty (LP). LN was performed in 32 cases and LP in 35 cases.

Acta Orthop Traumatol Turc

December 2016

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital, Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine, Republic of Korea.

Objective: We investigated causes and results of revision surgeries after artificial disc replacement of cervical spine (C-ADR).

Methods: Twenty-one patients (mean age: 52.8) who underwent revision surgery after C-ADR and who had a minimum 2-year of follow-up were included into this study.

Therapeutic activity of the histone deacetylase inhibitor SB939 on renal fibrosis.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2017

Department of Microbiology and Immunology, College of Medicine, Inje University, Busan 614-735, South Korea. Electronic address:

Fibrosis is the final pathological outcome of many chronic kidney diseases and is quite common. Thus, development of effective anti-fibrotic agents is urgently needed. Although histone deacetylases (HDACs) have been reported to be involved in renal fibrosis, current HDAC inhibitors are unsatisfactory anti-fibrosis drugs.

Reconstruction of superficial deltoid ligaments with allograft tendons in medial ankle instability: A technical report.

Injury

March 2016

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Seonam University Myongji Hospital, 697-24 Hwajung-dong, Deokyang-gu Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, 412-270, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Background: Deltoid ligament insufficiency can cause arthritic changes with various symptoms in the ankle joint. However, reconstruction procedures of the medial collateral and deltoid ligaments have drawn less attention than those of the lateral ankle ligaments. Few techniques for reconstructing deltoid ligaments are available, and those that are can be complex.

OBJECT The progression of cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) can lead to increase in the size of the OPLL mass and aggravation of neurological symptoms. In the present study, the authors aimed to analyze the progression of cervical OPLL by using CT imaging, elucidate the morphology of OPLL masses, and evaluate the factors associated with the progression of cervical OPLL. METHODS Sixty patients with cervical OPLL were included.

Unlabelled: We evaluated the relationship between sagittal spinopelvic parameters and the occurrence of adjacent vertebral fractures (AVF) and determined the possible risk factor. The most important factors for AVFs are the degree of osteoporosis and altered biomechanics due to the spinopelvic imbalance in the fractured area of the spine.

Introduction: We intend to evaluate the relationship between sagittal spinopelvic parameters and the occurrence of adjacent vertebral fractures following the initial compression fracture and to determine the possible dominant risk factor associated with new compression fractures.

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between postoperative increase in intervertebral disc space height (IVH) and posterior axial neck in cases of degenerative cervical disease treated with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).

Methods: A total of 155 patients who underwent ACDF with more than 1 year follow up were included. Radiologically, IVH and interfacet distance (IFD) of the operated segment were measured preoperatively and postoperatively.

Intradural tumours of the spine are usually benign and have a good prognosis, if they are diagnosed and removed early. Lumbar disc herniation is a common cause of chronic, acute, or recurrent lumbar radiculopathy. However, to date, there have been no reports of progressive neurological deficiencies due to the co-existence of two significant pathologies contributing to intradural and extradural compression.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyse changes of spinopelvic parameters and stability in the treatment of degenerative lumbar deformity.

Methods: A retrospective review was carried out on 70 cases of degenerative lumbar deformity treated by long fusion with uni-cortical S1 fixation alone (US1F group, n = 20), bi-cortical S1 fixation alone (BS1F group, n = 20), additional diagonal S2 fixation (DS2F group, n = 14), and additional iliac fixation (ILF group, n = 16) from July 2003 to April 2010. The sagittal vertical axis (SVA), lumbar lordosis (LL), sacral slope (SS), pelvic tilt (PT), pelvic incidence (PI), and stability were used to evaluate radiologic outcomes.
