The aim of this study was to examine whether administration of valproic acid (VPA), a histone deacetylase inhibitor, inhibits proinflammatory mediators and ameliorate visceral vasopermeability both in a rat model of major burn, and also in rat cultured endothelial cells stimulated with permeability evoking mediators. SD rats were subjected to a 50% TBSA full-thickness scald injury, and treated with either saline or VPA (300 mg/kg) intraperitoneally. Pulmonary vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), myeloperoxidase (MPO), pulmonary microvascular permeability, water content, and acetylation of histone H3K9 of lungs were evaluated.

To explore the profibrotic characteristics of the autografted dermis, acellular dermal matrix, and dermal fibroblasts from superficial/deep layers of pig skin, 93 wounds were established on the dorsa of 7 pigs. 72 wounds autografted with the superficial/deep dermis and acellular dermal matrix served as the superficial/deep dermis and acellular dermal matrix group, respectively, and were sampled at 2, 4, and 8 weeks post-wounding. 21 wounds autografted with/without superficial/deep dermal fibroblasts served as the superficial/deep dermal fibroblast group and the control group, respectively, and were sampled at 2 weeks post-wounding.

Introduction: Selecting a suitable wound dressing for patients with partial-thickness burns (PTBs) is important in wound care. However, the comparative effectiveness of different dressings has not been studied. We report the protocol of a network meta-analysis designed to combine direct and indirect evidence of wound dressings in the management of PTB.

Growth arrest-specific (Gas) 6 is one of the endogenous ligands of TAM receptors (Tyro3, Axl, and Mertk), and its role as an immune modulator has been recently emphasized. Naturally occurring CD4CD25 regulatory T cells (Tregs) are essential for the active suppression of autoimmunity. The present study was designed to investigate whether Tregs express TAM receptors and the potential role of Gas6-TAM signal in regulating the suppressive function of Tregs.

Objective: To explore the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) on suppressing the release of gut inflammatory cytokine and re-store of the barrier impairment following zymosan-insulted systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS).
Methods: S D rats were randomly divided into four groups:sham with administration of normal saline (SS group); sham with administration of DMSO (DS group); zymosan with administration of normal saline (ZS group); and zymosan with administration of DMSO (ZD group), each group includes two subgroups at 4 h and 24 h after surgery. At 4 h and 24 h after intraperitoneal injection of zymosan (750 mg/kg), the levels of intestinal inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-αand interleukin-10) and the activity of diamine oxidase in plasma were examined.

To observe the secretion function changes of islet beta cells isolated from rats in the early stage of severe scald, and to explore the influence of them. Thirty-six Wistar rats were divided into sham injury (SI) group, sham injury+ exendin-4 (SIE) group, scald (S) group, and scald+ exendin-4 (SE) group according to the random number table, with 9 rats in each group. Rats in groups S and SE were inflicted with 50% total body surface area full-thickness scald by a 12-s immersion of back and a 6-s immersion of abdomen in 94 ℃ hot water.

In vitro studies of human dermal fibroblast (DF) heterogeneity have long been reported, yet in vivo studies and related research on animals are rare. The objectives of the study were to determine whether the DFs of pigs exhibit heterogeneity and to identify an animal model for the in vivo study of DF heterogeneity. The skin of three female red Duroc pigs (FRDPs) was separated into six layers, and the second and fifth layers (i.

Background: Obesity and type 2 diabetes are major risk factors for peripheral arterial disease in humans, which can result in lower limb demand ischemia and exercise intolerance. Exercise triggers skeletal muscle adaptation including increased vasculogenesis. The goal of this study was to determine whether demand ischemia modulates revascularization, fiber size, and signaling pathways in the ischemic hind limb muscles of mice with diet-induced obesity (DIO).

Regenerative medicine (RM) is an emerging interdisciplinary field of research and China has developed the research quickly and impressed the world with numerous research findings in stem cells, tissue engineering, active molecules and gene therapy. Important directions are induced differentiation of induced pluripotent stem and embryo stem cells as well as somatic stem cell differentiation potential and their application in trauma, burns, diseases of aging and nerve regeneration. The products ActivSkin and bone repair scaffolds have been approved and are applied in the clinic, and similar products are being studied.

Retracting hypertrophic scars resulting from healed burn wounds heavily impact on the patients' life quality. Biomaterial scaffolds guiding burned-out skin regeneration could suppress or lessen scar retraction. Here we report a novel silk noil-based three-dimensional (3D) nonwoven scaffold produced by carding and needling with no formic acid exposure, which might improve burn healing.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa as an opportunistic pathogen is a significant cause of acute and chronic infections in patients with compromised defenses. This bacterium is motile via a single polar flagellum made of polymerized flagellin subunits differentiated into two major serotypes: A and B. flagellin plays an important role as a virulence factor in the adhesion, colonization and invasion of P.

Background: Respiratory dysfunction is a frequent complication after severe burn injury. Respiratory muscle atrophy may induce respiratory dysfunction due to insufficient inspiratory motive power. Accumulated evidence suggests that apoptosis is very important in skeletal muscle atrophy in multiple pathologic conditions.

Objective: To primarily evaluate the effects of ulinastatin on immune function of patients with severe burn injury.
Methods: Forty patients with severe burn admitted to our ward from March 2013 to October 2015, conforming to the study criteria, were divided into conventional treatment group (CT, n=20) and ulinastatin treatment group (UT, n=20) according to the random number table and patient's consent. After admission, patients in group CT received antishock treatment, antibiotic treatment, debridement, skin grafting, and nutrition support, etc.

Background: To investigate whether pyruvate-enriched oral rehydration solution (Pyr-ORS), compared with citrate-enriched ORS (Cit-ORS), improves hemodynamics and organ function by alleviating vasopermeability and plasma volume loss during intra-gastric fluid rehydration in dogs with severe burn.
Methods: Forty dogs subjected to severe burn were randomly divided into four groups (n=10): two oral rehydrated groups with Pyr-ORS and Cit-ORS (group PR and group CR), respectively, according to the Parkland formula during the first 24h after burns. Other two groups were the intravenous (IV) resuscitation (group VR) with lactated Ringer's solution with the same dosage and no fluid rehydration (group NR).

Till now, though great progress has been made in the treatment of refractory wound, severe challenges are still awaiting to be solved. The strategy of treatment is generally either non-surgical treatment or surgical treatment. Non-surgical treatment includes physical therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, growth factor therapy, stem cell transplantation, gene therapy, application of new biological dressing, application of skin tissue engineering, three-dimensional bio-printing technology, biological therapy, and Chinese herbal medicine therapy.

The purposes of this study were to establish an animal model for burn-blast combined injury research and elaborate cardiopulmonary system changes in the early shock stage. In this study, royal demolition explosive or RDX (hexagon, ring trimethylene nitramine) was used as an explosive source, and the injury conditions of the canine test subjects at various distances to the explosion (30, 50, and 70 cm) were observed by gross anatomy and pathology to determine a larger animal model of moderate blast injury. The canines were then subjected to a 35 % total body surface area (TBSA) full-thickness flame injury using napalm, which completed the development of a burn-blast combined injury model.
