Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectsia (HHT) is an inherited vascular disorder with highly variable expressivity, affecting up to 1 in 5,000 individuals. This disease is characterized by small arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in mucocutaneous areas (telangiectases) and larger visceral AVMs in the lungs, liver, and brain. HHT is caused by loss-of-function mutations in the BMP9-10/ENG/ALK1/SMAD4 signaling pathway.

There is a discrepancy between the hearing test results in patients with single-sided deafness (SSD) and their reported outcome measures. This is probably due to the presence of two elements in everyday situations: noise and head movements. We developed a stereo-audiometric test in noise with free head movements to evaluate movements and auditory performance in monaural and binaural conditions in normal hearing volunteers with one occluded ear.

Article Synopsis
  • Relapses of psoriasis are linked to tissue-resident memory T cells that produce specific cytokines, which play a key role in maintaining inflammation in the skin.* -
  • Research using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry shows that the fatty acid composition of skin differs between healthy individuals and normal-looking skin in psoriasis patients, yet there’s no significant difference between nonlesional and resolved skin.* -
  • Higher levels of oleic acid in resolved skin correlate with a lower activation of IL-17 in T cells, suggesting that adjusting fatty acid levels could be a potential therapeutic strategy for managing inflammatory skin diseases.*

In this paper, we review the ethical issues involved in providing information to, and obtaining consent (for treatment and/or research) from patients in the intensive care unit. We first review the ethical obligations of the physician in treating patients, who are by definition, vulnerable, and often unable to assert their autonomy during situations of critical illness. Providing clear and transparent information to the patient about treatment options or research opportunities is an ethical and, in some cases, legal obligation for the physicians, but may be rendered difficult, not to say impossible in the intensive care unit by the patient's health state.

Electronic address:

Telomere maintenance 2 (TELO2), Tel2 interacting protein 2 (TTI2), and Tel2 interacting protein 1 (TTI1) are the three components of the conserved Triple T (TTT) complex that modulates activity of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-related protein kinases (PIKKs), including mTOR, ATM, and ATR, by regulating the assembly of mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1). The TTT complex is essential for the expression, maturation, and stability of ATM and ATR in response to DNA damage. TELO2- and TTI2-related bi-allelic autosomal-recessive (AR) encephalopathies have been described in individuals with moderate to severe intellectual disability (ID), short stature, postnatal microcephaly, and a movement disorder (in the case of variants within TELO2).
