Introduction: A simple orbital lymphatic malformation usually presents with acute proptosis with ophthalmoplegia after an upper respiratory tract infection. Various treatments have been described but the lesions often recur after treatment due to their infiltrative nature.
Case Presentations: A 6-year-old girl presented with a 5 × 10 mm translucent mass in the left inferior fornix for 3 years but she denied diplopia and visual disturbance.

Herein we demonstrate that a visible-light-induced photocatalytic four-component fluoroalkylation-dithiocarbamylation is a unified method for the fluoroalkylation of diverse activated fluoroalkyl halides, including monofluoroalkyl bromides, difluoroalkyl bromides, trifluoromethyl iodide, and perfluoroalkyl iodides. The synthetic value of this method has been demonstrated by the transformations of various substrates containing drug/natural product skeletons, gram scale reactions, and further derivatizations of the fluorodithiocarbamate products. This work features an atom economical protocol that is simple to operate, does not require any additives or strong bases, and can be carried out under mild conditions.

Ellagic acid (EA) is a phenolic phytochemical found in many plants and their fruits. Vaginal epithelial cells are the first line of defense against pathogen invasion in the female reproductive tract and express antimicrobial peptides, including hBD2 and SLPI. This study investigated the in vitro effects of EA (1) on vaginal innate immunity using human vaginal epithelial cells, and (2) on HPV16 pseudovirus infection.

This research explores the integration of corn husk nanocellulose (CHNc) and pineapple leaf nanocellulose (PLNc) as reinforcing agents in a carboxymethyl cellulose-based film derived from durian husk (CMC). Through a solvent-casting method, composite films were fabricated with varying nanocellulose contents (15, 30, and 45 wt%). Analysis using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction confirmed the effectiveness of alkaline and bleaching treatments in eliminating noncellulosic components.

Fibroin nanoparticles (FNP) have been employed in numerous biomedical applications. However, limited research has focused on the oral delivery of FNP and in-depth molecular interactions between the encapsulated drug and FNP. Therefore, this work developed the FNP, functionalized with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), to orally deliver the zwitterionic ciprofloxacin, focused on the molecular interactions.

Background: Excessive expression of hemoglobin F (HbF) is a characteristic feature and important diagnostic marker of β-thalassemia/HbE disease. However, some patients may exhibit low-HbF levels, leading to misdiagnosis and precluding genetic counseling. The genetic factors influencing these differences in HbF expression in this atypical disease are not completely understood.

The increased consumption of animal products has led to a proliferation of animal husbandry operations, particularly in agricultural countries. Animal husbandry facilities or livestock farming directly impact the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the environment, giving rise to various issues such as odors, contamination of water and air sources with pathogens, and potential contamination of meat products originating from these facilities. This research aims to assess the impacts on the physical (temperature, relative humidity and air velocity), chemical (carbon dioxide, total volatile organic compounds and particulate matter), and biological air quality assessment (amount and type of bioaerosols) aspects resulting from pig and poultry farming.

Genetic screening for HLA-B*15:02 before prescribing carbamazepine is standard practice to prevent severe cutaneous adverse reactions in Asian populations. These reactions are associated not only with this allele but also with closely related HLA-B75 serotype markers-HLA-B*15:11 and HLA-B*15:21-which are prevalent in several Asian countries. However, a reliable method for identifying HLA-B75 serotype markers is still not available.
