Crucial Role of Microbiota in Experimental Psoriasis Revealed by a Gnotobiotic Mouse Model.

Psoriatic patients have altered microbiota, both in the intestine and on the skin. It is not clear, however, whether this is a cause or consequence of the disease. In this study, using an experimental mouse model of psoriasis induced by imiquimod (IMQ), we show that oral treatment with a broad spectrum of antibiotics (MIX) or metronidazole (MET) alone mitigates the severity of skin inflammation through downregulation of Th17 immune response in conventional mice.

Synchronous endometrioid endometrial and ovarian carcinomas are biologically related: A clinico-pathological and molecular (next generation sequencing) study of 22 cases.

The criteria for distinction between independent primary tumors and metastasis from one site to the other in synchronous endometrioid endometrial and ovarian carcinoma (SEO) has been a matter of dispute for a long time. In our study we performed a comprehensive clinico-pathological and molecular analysis of 22 cases of SEO. Based on conventional clinico-pathological criteria the cases were classified as independent primary tumors (10 cases) and metastasis from one location to the other (12 cases).

Matrix Metalloproteinases and Their Tissue Inhibitors: an Evaluation of Novel Biomarkers in ANCA-Associated Vasculitis.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) may play an important role in both inflammation with subsequent fibrosis and in repair and healing in anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV). We evaluated the circulating levels of MMPs, including pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A), and TIMPs in patients with AAV. PAPP-A, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-9, TIMP-1, TIMP-2 and selected parameters were measured in 100 AAV patients (36 patients with active disease and 64 patients in remission) and 34 healthy subjects.

Background: Respiratory parameters are important predictors of prognosis in the COPD population. Global Initiative for Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) 2017 Update resulted in a vertical shift of patients across COPD categories, with category B being the most populous and clinically heterogeneous. This review about the proactive sequential therapy (PST) of external genital and perianal warts (EGW) is based on the most current available clinical literature and on the broad clinical experience of a group of international experts, physicians who are well versed in the treatment of human papillomavirus-associated diseases. It provides a practical guide for the treatment of EGW, including epidemiology, etiology, clinical appearance, and diagnostic procedures for these viral infections. Furthermore, the treatment goals and current treatment options, elucidating provider- and patient-applied therapies, and the parameters driving treatment decisions are summarized.

The association of enchondromatosis with malignant transformed chondrosarcoma and ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor (Ollier disease).

Objective: Ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor has an interesting association with multiple enchondromatosis (Ollier disease and Maffucci syndrome) and should be considered a leading diagnosis when an ovarian mass is found in young patients with these conditions. Besides the association with nonskeletal malignancies, there is a high risk of malignant transformation of enchondroma in chondrosarcoma as was also the case in this instance.

Case Report: The report uses multiple images to document the representative and characteristic markers of multiple enchondromas in a 22-year-old patient with Ollier disease complicated by malignant transformation of chondrosarcoma and in whom the disease is associated with ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor of the right ovary.

Concordance of HPV-DNA in cervical dysplasia or genital warts in women and their monogamous long-term male partners.

Transmission of human papillomavirus (HPV) is a premise for development of cervical dysplasia and genital warts (GWs). This cross-sectional study assesses concordance of HPV types present in GWs or cervical dysplasia in women and genital infection of their monogamous male partners in conjunction with seroprevalence of HPV-6, -11, -16, and -18 antibodies. Blood was taken from both women and men, as well a smear of the urogenital area of men.

In this study, a cell-based therapy utilizing laminin-alginate beads (LABs) as carriers was proposed to promote cell survival and adipogenesis by providing short-term physical support and facilitate nutrient diffusion of the implants.

Focal osteoporosis defects play a key role in hip fracture.

Background: Hip fractures are mainly caused by accidental falls and trips, which magnify forces in well-defined areas of the proximal femur. Unfortunately, the same areas are at risk of rapid bone loss with ageing, since they are relatively stress-shielded during walking and sitting. Focal osteoporosis in those areas may contribute to fracture, and targeted 3D measurements might enhance hip fracture prediction.

In vitro and in vivo assessment of chitosan modified urocanic acid as gene carrier.

Chitosan nanoparticles modified with 10 and 30% urocanic acid (CUA) via carbodiimide crosslinking were examined for an efficient gene delivery carrier. The CUA gene carrier was characterized by FTIR, TEM, SEM and the in vitro transfection efficiency CUA polyplex was tested with HeLa and 3T3 cells. The loading efficiency of CUA complexes with DNA was assessed at different N/P ratio of 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.

The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of Michaels® (Soratinex®) remedies in patients suffering from chronic plaque psoriasis in a Czech population. Seventy-five (34 female/41 male) patients, aged 18-72 years old (mean age: 38.5 years) with mild to severe plaque psoriasis participated in the study.
