Background: Stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a highly heterogeneous stage due to its subgroups (IIIA-IIIC) comprising both resectable and unresectable tumors. Accurate determination of the extent of the disease is essential for excluding stage IV and choosing the optimal treatment regimen. Whole body positron emission tomography and computed tomography scan (PET/CT) is recommended as an initial staging imaging in locally advanced NSCLC.

Low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSC) may develop from serous borderline tumor (SBT) tissue, where the micropapillary type (mSBT) presents the highest risk for progression. The sensitivity of LGSC to standard chemotherapy is limited, so alternative therapeutic approaches, including targeted treatment, are needed. However, knowledge about the molecular landscape of LGSC and mSBT is limited.

Purpose: The aim of our study was to evaluate if therapeutic success in the first-line of anticancer treatments in patients with NSCLC may predict treatment success in the following lines.
Methods: We analyzed the data of patients with NSCLC stage III/IV from the TULUNG registry separately for chemotherapy, TKIs, ALK inhibitors, and immunotherapy in the first line during the years 2011-2019. "Succesful treatment " was defined as PFS ≥ 6 months, a "good responder " was a patient with ˃50% of "successful treatment " lines.

Preferentially expressed antigen of melanoma (PRAME) is a cancer/testis antigen selectively expressed in somatic tissues and various solid malignant tumors and is associated with poor prognostic outcome. Our research aimed to comprehensively compare its expression in a large cohort of tubo-ovarian epithelial tumors and examine its correlation with our clinico-pathologic data, as well as to assess its potential use in diagnostics and therapy. We examined 485 cases of epithelial tubo-ovarian tumors including 107 clear cell carcinomas (CCC), 52 endometroid carcinomas (EC), 103 high grade serous carcinomas (HGSC), 119 low grade serous carcinomas (LGSC)/micropapillary variant of serous borderline tumors (mSBT), and 104 cases of mucinous carcinomas (MC)/mucinous borderline tumors (MBT).

Objective: To determine the relationship between the clinical outcome of suburethral sling surgery for stress urinary incontinence and sling location on ultrasound examination.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients diagnosed with stress urinary incontinence who were treated with a suburethral sling by a single surgeon between January 2009 and October 2016. Four-dimensional volumes acquired on transperineal ultrasound at least 3 months postoperatively were analyzed and the gap between the sling and symphysis pubis (sling-pubis gap (SPG)) on Valsalva maneuver was measured.

Background: Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression is a standard predictor in the selection of immunotherapy for locally advanced/advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, comedication with corticosteroids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may influence the effectiveness of this treatment as documented in several previous studies. Due to certain molecular linkages between PD-L1 and corticosteroids or NSAIDs, we therefore addressed the question of whether there is a relationship between PD-L1 expression in NSCLC and the use of this comedication.

HIV-positive patients may present lungs with multiple infections, which may hinder differential diagnoses and the choice of treatment in the course of COVID-19, especially in countries with limited access to high-standard healthcare. Here, we aim to investigate the association between radiological changes and poor COVID-19 outcomes among HIV-positive patients from Central and Eastern Europe. Between November 2020 and May 2021, the Euroguidelines in Central and Eastern Europe Network Group started collecting observational data on HIV and COVID-19 co-infections.

Aim: This study compared the results of nivolumab treatment in patients with pulmonary adenocarcinomas based upon previous chemotherapeutic regimens.
Patients And Methods: The data source for this retrospective study was the Czech VILP registry of patients with nivolumab-treated adenocarcinomas in second and higher lines of treatment. In relation to objective response rate, progression-free interval, and overall survival, three comparisons of patient were made: A: Those treated in first line with cisplatin and pemetrexed versus carboplatin with paclitaxel or vinorelbine; B: treatment with cisplatin and pemetrexed versus carboplatin with paclitaxel/vinorelbine and bevacizumab; and C: treatment in previous lines with pemetrexed (first-line cisplatin and pemetrexed plus those treated in second line with pemetrexed) versus treatment with taxane (first-line carboplatin and paclitaxel only plus those treated with second-line docetaxel).

Objective: Although calcitriol is essential for bone healing, its serum concentrations are low after hip surgery, and they continue to decline during bone healing. This study aimed to test the hypothesis of an association of changes in calcitriol production with the status of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) and iron deficiency after elective hip replacement for coxarthrosis.
Methods: In this prospective study, we measured the biomarkers of 17 patients undergoing elective hip replacement on admission, on the first day after surgery, and at the regular check-up after 48 ± 8 days.

Background: Lymphedema is a common adverse consequence of breast cancer therapy, while still relatively little is known about its pathophysiology. Several treatment options emerged over the past decades, and among them, vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) seems to be particularly promising. Animal models are indispensable to improve our understanding of the underlying processes surrounding the transplantation of a vascularized lymph node.

Vaccination is essential to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccination significantly protects against severe COVID-19, hospitalization and death; it also protects against symptomatic infection and reduces the risk of transmission to other people. Protection against the new SARS-CoV-2 variants may be lower, but protection against severe course and death remains high.
