Background: () is a common cause of widespread bacterial infections and has been associated with the stabilization of the microbiome. The microbiome, through modulating systemic inflammation with possible upregulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, may potentiate the development of breast cancer (BC). The purpose of this study was to therefore evaluate the correlation between previous infection and the incidence of BC.

Background: Although comorbidities are risk factors for recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI), many clinical trials exclude patients with medical conditions such as malignancy or immunosuppression. In a phase 3, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial (ECOSPOR III), fecal microbiota spores, live (VOWST, Seres Therapeutics; hereafter "VOS," formerly SER-109), an oral microbiota therapeutic, significantly reduced the risk of rCDI at week 8. We evaluated the efficacy of VOS compared with placebo in patients with comorbidities and other risk factors for rCDI.

The discovery and development of novel treatments that harness the patient's immune system and prevent immune escape has dramatically improved outcomes for patients across cancer types. However, not all patients respond to immunotherapy, acquired resistance remains a challenge, and responses are poor in certain tumors which are considered to be immunologically cold. This has led to the need for new immunotherapy-based approaches, including adoptive cell transfer (ACT), therapeutic vaccines, and novel immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Immune effector cells (IECs) include a broad range of immune cells capable of modulating several disease states, including malignant and nonmalignant conditions. The growth in the use of IECs as both investigational and commercially available products requires medical institutions to develop workflows/processes to safely implement and deliver transformative therapy. Adding to the complexity of this therapy are the variety of targets, diseases, sources, and unique toxicities that a patient experiences following IEC therapy.

In the past 20 years of the Global War on Terror, the US has seen substantial improvements in its system of medical delivery in combat. However, throughout that conflict, enemy forces did not have parity with the weaponry, capability, or personnel of the US and allied forces. War against countries like China and Russia, who are considered near-peer adversaries in terms of capabilities, will challenge battlefield medical care in many different ways.

Bacterial lipoproteins are structurally divided into two groups, based on their lipid moieties: diacylated (present in Gram-positive bacteria) and triacylated (present in some Gram-positive and most Gram-negative bacteria). Diacylated and triacylated lipid moieties differ by a single amide-linked fatty acid chain. Lipoproteins induce host innate immune responses by the mammalian Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2).

Cell therapy has reached significant milestones in various life-threatening diseases, including cancer. Cell therapy using fluorescent and radiolabeled chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell is a successful strategy for diagnosing or treating malignancies. Since cell therapy approaches have different results in cancers, the success of hematological cancers has yet to transfer to solid tumor therapy, leading to more casualties.

A-kinase anchoring protein (AKAP) 12 is a scaffolding protein that anchors various signaling proteins to the plasma membrane. These signaling proteins include protein kinase A, protein kinase C, protein phosphatase 2B, Src-family kinases, cyclins, and calmodulin, which regulate their respective signaling pathways. AKAP12 expression is observed in the neurons, astrocytes, endothelial cells, pericytes, and oligodendrocytes of the central nervous system (CNS).

Here, the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) updates its clinical practice recommendations for the management of multiple myeloma-related renal impairment on the basis of data published until Dec 31, 2022. All patients with multiple myeloma and renal impairment should have serum creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate, and free light chains (FLCs) measurements together with 24-h urine total protein, electrophoresis, and immunofixation. If non-selective proteinuria (mainly albuminuria) or involved serum FLCs value less than 500 mg/L is detected, then a renal biopsy is needed.

In preclinical models, anakinra, an IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra), reduced immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) without compromising anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell efficacy. We initiated a phase 2 clinical trial of anakinra in patients with relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma treated with commercial anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapy. Here we report a non-prespecified interim analysis reporting the final results from cohort 1 in which patients received subcutaneous anakinra from day 2 until at least day 10 post-CAR T-cell infusion.

Background: Cerebral edema is a secondary complication of acute ischemic stroke, but its time course and imaging markers are not fully understood. Recently, net water uptake (NWU) has been proposed as a novel marker of edema.
Aims: Studying the RHAPSODY trial cohort, we sought to characterize the time course of edema and test the hypothesis that NWU provides distinct information when added to traditional markers of cerebral edema after stroke by examining its association with other markers.
