This video presents a case of L4-5 unstable spondylolisthesis treated with full-endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (Endo-TLIF), emphasizing the GUARD (Glider Used as a Rotary Device) technique for nerve root protection. This innovative approach involves controlled rotation of the cage glider before cage insertion to minimize the risk of nerve root injury, a significant complication in Endo-TLIF procedures. The GUARD technique, validated in previous cadaveric studies, provides enhanced safety during cage insertion by protecting the nerve root.

Objective: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has long been regarded as a gold standard in the treatment of cervical myelopathy. Subsequently, cervical artificial disc replacement (c-ADR) was developed and provides the advantage of motion preservation at the level of the intervertebral disc surgical site, which may also reduce stress at adjacent levels. The goal of this study was to compare clinical and functional outcomes in patients undergoing ACDF with those in patients undergoing c-ADR for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM).

Unlabelled: Although evidence suggests that a positive family history of bladder cancer in first-degree relatives is an important risk factor for bladder cancer occurrence, results remain unclear. The influence of family history of nonbladder cancers and more distant relatives on bladder cancer risk is inconsistent. This research, therefore, aims to increase the understanding of the association between family history and bladder cancer risk based on worldwide case-control studies.

Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) subjected to external alternating magnetic field can induce heat in MNPs due to hysteresis, which is usually employed for tumor hyperthermia. An effective hyperthermia treatment should selectively kill the tumor cells without damaging the ambient healthy tissue. Hence, it is important for hyperthermia to correctly control the alternating magnetic field-induced temperature of MNPs in the tumor.

Background: The objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness and prognostic factors of revisional full endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (FEID) for recurrent herniation after conventional open disc surgery. The major concerns of the repeated discectomy for recurrent lumbar disc herniation (RLDH) are the epidural scar and postoperative segmental instability. Compared to open discectomy, endoscopic method has advantages of less tissue traumatization, clearer visualization and better tissue identification.

Background: Enhancing detection of unrecognized atrial fibrillation among acute ischemic stroke patients is crucial for secondary stroke prevention.
Aim: To evaluate whether the detection rate of new atrial fibrillation in acute ischemic stroke patients without known atrial fibrillation could be improved by doing serial 12-lead electrocardiograms once daily for five days, compared with conventional 24-h Holter monitoring (24-h Holter).
Methods: We conducted a randomized clinical trial to compare the detection rates of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation between serial electrocardiograms versus 24-h Holter from October 2015 to October 2018 at six hospitals.

We developed a label-free, real-time, and highly sensitive nucleic acid biosensor based on fiber optic particle plasmon resonance (FOPPR). The biosensor employs a single-strand deoxyoligonucleotides (ssDNA) probe, conjugated to immobilized gold nanoparticles on the core surface of an optical fiber. We explore the steric effects on hybridization affinity and limit of detection (LOD), by using different ssDNA probe designs and surface chemistries, including diluent molecules of different lengths in mixed self-assembled monolayers, ssDNA probes of different oligonucleotide lengths, ssDNA probes in different orientations to accommodate target oligonucleotides with a hybridization region located unevenly in the strand.

Background: Controversy is not uncommon in the diagnosis of discogenic low back pain (DLBP) and in the identification of the location of the pain source for the symptomatic disc in patients with DLBP. Various techniques, from minimally invasive procedures to fusion surgery, are used to treat chronic DLBP, but the clinical outcomes are variable. Percutaneous endoscopic discectomy by transforaminal or interlaminar approach is considered to be an effective method to treat DLBP, but the evidence is limited; the lack of clear evidence may be associated with patient selection and surgical technique.
