Aims And Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the expression of p53 protein and Ki-67 antigen in normal oral mucosa and oral leukoplakia with different grades of dysplasia using immunohistochemistry and to clarify the correlation of the expression of these cell cycle regulatory proteins.
Materials And Methods: A total of 20 archival tissue blocks obtained from our department which were diagnosed as mild ( = 5), moderate ( = 5), and severe dysplasia ( = 5) with normal mucosa ( = 5) as a control. Positivity of Ki-67 and p53 was analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM Corp.

FTIR spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy of biological analytes are increasingly explored as screening tools for early detection of cancer. In the present study, an integrated analysis of the FTIR and Raman spectra obtained from exfoliated cells is adopted to improve discrimination of normal, pre-cancerous and cancerous conditions. Multiple spectra were obtained from 13 normal, 13 pre-cancer and 10 cancer patients in both modes.

Aim: The study was conducted to assess facial asymmetry in various dental malocclusions and to determine asymmetry in lower, mid, and upper face and jaws using posteroanterior cephalometric analysis.
Materials And Methods: Overall, 120 posteroanterior cepha-lograms were taken of individuals between 12 and 25 years of both sexes, and were divided into four groups: Angle's class I excellent occlusion, Angle's class I malocclusion, Angle's class II malocclusion, and Angle's class III malocclusion. These cepha-lograms were traced and Grummon's analysis was performed.

A pediatric mandibular fracture can cause a child severe pain and the parent or caregiver extreme worry. While the pattern of fractures in children is similar to adults, however, due to a number of factors, including the anatomical complexity of the developing mandible, management of such fractures differs from that of adults and can greatly challenge the pediatric dentist. Various treatment modalities of managing mandibular fracture are available, such as closed/open cap splint with circummandibular wiring, arch-bar fixation, and cementation of the cap splint.

A granuloma is a collection of epithelioid histiocytes that is often associated with multinucleated giant cells, and is considered widely to be a non-neoplastic lesion, although some lesions demonstrate aggressive behavior similar to that of a neoplasm. The diagnosis of giant cell granulomas (central and peripheral) is confirmed by histopathologic examination. Early detection and excision are important to minimize potential dentoalveolar complications.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a global disease and mortality burden, necessitating the elucidation of its molecular progression for effective disease management. The study aims to understand the molecular profile of three candidate cell cycle regulatory genes, RBSP3, LIMD1 and CDC25A in the basal/ parabasal versus spinous layer of normal oral epithelium and during head and neck tumorigenesis. Immunohistochemical expression and promoter methylation was used to determine the molecular signature in normal oral epithelium.

Introduction: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts 94% of all malignant lesions in the oral cavity. In the assessment of OSCC, nowadays the WHO grading system has been followed widely but due to its subjectivity, investigators applied the sophisticated technique of computer-assisted image analysis in the grading of carcinoma in larynx, lungs, esophagus, and cervix to make it more objective.
Aims And Objectives: Access, analyze, and compare the cellular area (CA); cytoplasmic area (Cyt A); nuclear area (NA); nuclear perimeter (NP); nuclear form factor (NF); and nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio (N/C) of the cells in different grades of OSCC.

Metabolic alterations of oral epithelial cells under oxidative stress are important signatures for early diagnosis of oral cancer. Amongst different metabolic alterations, non-invasive photo-diagnostic methods have been extensively used for determining cellular heme metabolism and accumulation of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) under administration of suitable photosensitizer. In this study, we report these metabolic alterations by direct analysis of oral exfoliated cells obtained from individuals with prolonged smoking habit without the exogenous administration of any photosensitizer.

Unlabelled: Odontogenic myxomas are rarely occurring, slow-growing, asymptomatic, and locally aggressive odontogenic tumors with high rate of recurrence, mainly of ectomesenchymal origin. Three-dimensional imaging techniques can be used to diagnose such pathological lesions, but have limited use as they are not cost-effective and are selectively available for better outcome. Following is a case report of OM of a 5-year-old child with a brief discussion on its diagnosis and management.

Correction of Class II malocclusion by distalization of maxillary molars with intraoral appliances is a non-extraction treatment approach, which has been described as an alternative to Head Gear. From the past few years, the procedures have undergone rectification to achieve treatment objective more precisely. This has been made possible by a better understanding of bone physiology, tooth movement, biomechanics and newer biomaterials.

Habitual smokers are known to be at higher risk for developing oral cancer, which is increasing at an alarming rate globally. Conventionally, oral cancer is associated with high mortality rates, although recent reports show the improved survival outcomes by early diagnosis of disease. An effective prediction system which will enable to identify the probability of cancer development amongst the habitual smokers, is thus expected to benefit sizable number of populations.
