Plant viruses have evolved different viral suppressors of RNA silencing (VSRs) to counteract RNA silencing which is a small RNA-mediated sequence-specific RNA degradation mechanism. Previous studies have already shown that the coat protein (CP) of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) reduced RNA silencing suppression (RSS) activity of the VSR of CMV, the 2b protein. Drug-loaded liposomes incorporated in nanofibrous scaffolds is a promising approach as a multi-unit nanoscale system, which combines the merits of both liposomes and nanofibers (NFs), eliminating the drawback of liposomes' poor stability on the one hand and offering a higher potential of controlled drug release and enhanced therapeutic efficacy on the other hand. Novel tetrahydroisoquinoline and piperidine derivatives were selectively synthesized from substituted indenes or cyclopentenes. The process starts with an oxidative cleavage of the ring olefin bond, which gives reactive diformyl intermediates. By a ring-closing step using chiral (R) or (S) α-methylbenzylamine under a reductive amination protocol facilitated ring formation with ring expansion of the corresponding nitrogen-containing heterocycles.

Autophagy-dependent survival relies on a crucial oscillatory response during cellular stress. Although oscillatory behaviour is typically associated with processes like the cell cycle or circadian rhythm, emerging experimental and theoretical evidence suggests that such periodic dynamics may explain conflicting experimental results in autophagy research. In this study, we demonstrate that oscillatory behaviour in the regulation of the non-selective, stress-induced macroautophagy arises from a series of interlinked negative and positive feedback loops within the mTORC1-AMPK-ULK1 regulatory triangle.

Background: In the back projection step of the 3D PET reconstruction, all Lines of Responses (LORs) that go through a given voxel need to be identified and included in an integral. The standard Monte Carlo solution to this task samples stochastically the surfaces of the detector crystals and the volume of the voxel to search for valid LORs. To get a low noise Monte Carlo estimate, the number of samples needs to be very high, making the computational cost of the projection significant.
