A Pediatric Cardiology Outreach Clinic in a Local Hospital: An Experience Review from South A'Sharqiyah, Oman.

Objectives: Specialized pediatric cardiology clinics conducted in local hospitals are an important part of delivering specialized care to patients close to their homes. This study aimed to review our experience with a specialized pediatric cardiology outreach clinic at Jaalan Bani Bu Ali Hospital, South A'Sharqiyah, Oman.

Methods: Patient records for each individual, seen in the outreach clinic between March 2018 and June 2022, were reviewed to determine demographic information, reason for referral, underlying diagnosis, and clinic visit outcomes.

Pattern of Traumatic Injuries in Patients with Tramadol Poisoning: A Cross-Sectional Study in a Tertiary Care Hospital.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the incidence and pattern of tramadol-induced seizures and injuries in patients admitted to the hospital.

Methods: The cross-sectional study included 300 patients with alleged tramadol intoxication. Demographic information, tramadol dosage and duration of abuse, co-existing illicit drug abuse, hospital stay length, and occurrence of seizures and trauma (type and site of injuries) were collected.

Association of SLC11A1 polymorphisms with anthropometric and biochemical parameters describing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Diabetes, a leading cause of death globally, has different types, with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) being the most prevalent one. It has been established that variations in the SLC11A1 gene impact risk of developing infectious, inflammatory, and endocrine disorders. Background: It is known that severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the viral strain responsible for the recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Current documents have demonstrated that the virus causes a PGE2 storm in a substantial proportion of patients via upregulating cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and downregulating prostaglandin E2 (PGE2)-degrading enzymes within the host cell.

Comparison of elevated cardiac troponin I with SAPS-II and APACHE-II score in predicting outcome of severe intoxications.

Background And Aims: To date, different methods have been invented to risk-stratify critically ill patients, however, there is a paucity of information regarding assessing the severity of poisonings. This study was designed to determine the comparative efficacy of Simplified Acute Physiology Score-II (SAPS-II) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation-II (APACHE-II)score with cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in predicting severe intoxication outcomes.

Methods: This was a prospective study conducted on patients who fulfilled defined severe intoxication criteria necessitating intensive care unit (ICU) admission over a period of 6 months.

Proximal airway obstruction caused by adenoid cystic carcinoma in a pregnant woman: A case report.

Respiratory tumours are very rare during pregnancy. Here, we report a case of a primigravida woman diagnosed at 27 weeks' gestation with stridor and dyspnoea, and a primary tracheal tumour. To the best of our knowledge, this is a 4th case report of tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma during pregnancy.

The Effect of Aspirin on Moderate to Severe Asthmatic Patients with Aspirin Hypersensitivity, Chronic Rhinosinusitis, and Nasal Polyposis.

Asthmatic patients may have aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease and experience acute dyspnea and nasal symptoms within 3 hours after the ingestion of aspirin. This study aimed to evaluate the effect and outcome of daily low-dose aspirin in the treatment of moderate to severe asthma in patients with concomitant aspirin hypersensitivity and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). This clinical trial was conducted from February 2014 to February 2015 on 46 adult patients with moderate to severe asthma accompanied by CRSwNP.

Opium-associated QT Interval Prolongation: A Cross-sectional Comparative Study.

Background: Toxicity and side effects of long-term use of opioids are well studied, but little information exists regarding electrophysiological disturbances of opium consumption. While natural opium has been regarded safe to a great extent among traditional communities, concerns are emerging owing to the available evidence of QT prolongation that have been exposed during recent outcome surveillance of patients under opioid use. Potential QT prolonging interactions would raise a higher level of such concern in opium users during COVID pandemic and warrant attention.

Aspirin Sensitivity in Patients with Moderate to Severe Asthma.

Asthma induced by ingestion of aspirin occurs when symptoms arise within 30 minutes to three hours after aspirin consumption. Previous data indicate that sensitivity to aspirin may be associated with poorly controlled asthma. This study aims to evaluate the frequency of aspirin sensitivity in patients with moderate to severe asthma receiving conventional asthma therapy.

Demographic Features and Etiology of Congenital Hypothyroidism at the National Diabetes and Endocrine Center in Oman from 2004 to 2016.

Objectives: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is the most common endocrine disorder in neonates as well as one of the few preventable causes of severe learning difficulties. Early screening, diagnosis, and treatment are mandatory to prevent later sequelae. We sought to determine the demographic and the clinical features of CH in Oman.

Our study aimed to evaluate the molecular diversity, mating types and antifungal susceptibility pattern of species (=14) isolated from 320 suspected patients with cryptococcosis. The gene was subjected to restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequence analysis.

Therapeutic Effects of Standardized Formulation of Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl on Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Crossover, Placebo-Controlled Pilot Study.

Objectives: In Iranian folklore medicine, boiled extract of Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl is reputed to have therapeutic effects in painful disorders. This study evaluated the efficacy of the standardized formulation of S. lavandulifolia Vahl in reducing pain in primary dysmenorrhea, which is known to be a common disorder with significant impact on quality of life.
