Strategies for optimal management of pediatric acute agitation in emergency settings.

Acute agitation in youth is a challenging presentation to the emergency department. In many cases, however, youth can be behaviorally de-escalated using a combination of environmental modification and verbal de-escalation. In cases where additional strategies such as pharmacologic de-escalation or physical restraint are needed, using the least restrictive means possible, including the youth in the decision-making process, and providing options are important.

Background The association between psychosocial factors and atrial fibrillation (AF) is poorly understood. Methods and Results Postmenopausal women from the Women's Health Initiative were retrospectively analyzed to identify incident AF in relation to a panel of validated psychosocial exposure variables, as assessed by multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression and hierarchical cluster analysis. Among the 83 736 women included, the average age was 63.

EQIP's First Year: A Step Closer to Higher Quality in Surgical Education.

Objective: To describe the first year of the Educational Quality Improvement Program (EQIP) DESIGN: The Educational Quality Improvement Program (EQIP) was formed by the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS) in 2018 as a continuous educational quality improvement program. Over 18 months, thirteen discrete goals for the establishment of EQIP were refined and executed through a collaborative effort involving leaders in surgical education. Alpha and beta pilots were conducted to refine the data queries and collection processes.

Leadership Matters: Needs Assessment and Framework for the International Federation for Emergency Medicine Administrative Leadership Curriculum.

Objectives: The objective was to research and develop a novel curriculum on administrative leadership development within the discipline of emergency medicine (EM) with the goal of establishing and implementing it through the world's EM professional organizations.

Methods: From 2016 to 2018 an assessment of different administrative and leadership programs was performed by researching and reviewing previously outlined curricula. Using the data from this assessment, a questionnaire was developed, that was subsequently sent to members of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine's (IFEM) listserv.

G-protein-coupled receptor 30 (GPR30/GPER) belongs to the seven transmembrane receptor (7TMR) superfamily, the most common class of surface receptor with approximately 800 known members. GPER promotes estrogen binding and rapid signaling via membrane-associated enzymes resulting in increased cAMP and release of heparan bound epidermal growth factor (proHB-EGF) from breast cancer cells. However, GPER is predominately localized intracellularly in breast cancer cells with minor amounts of receptor on the cell surface, an observation that has caused some controversy regarding its potential role as a plasma membrane estrogen receptor.
