Background And Objectives: Meningioma, the most common primary intracranial tumor, presents challenges in surgical treatment because of varying tissue stiffness. This study explores the molecular background of meningioma stiffness, a critical factor in surgical planning and prognosis, focusing on the utility of microRNAs (miRNAs) as diagnostic biomarkers of tissue stiffness.
Methods: Patients with meningiomas treated surgically at the University Hospital Brno were included in this study.

In contrast to conventional diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), multi-b-value diffusion MRI methods are able to separate the signal from free water, pseudo-diffusion, and non-Gaussian components of water molecule diffusion. These approaches can then be utilised in so-called intravoxel incoherent motion imaging and diffusion kurtosis imaging. Various parameters provided by these methods can describe additional characteristics of the tissue microstructure and potentially help in the diagnosis and classification of various pathological processes.

The compounds of seminal plasma have great potential as biomarkers of male fertility and can be used as a diagnostic tool for types of azoospermia. Azoospermia occurs in approximately 1% of the male population, and for an effective therapy of this form of male infertility, it is important to distinguish between obstructive and non-obstructive azoospermia. Proteins in seminal plasma can serve as biomarkers for diagnosing azoospermia.

Introduction: Severe respiratory failure is one of the most serious complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In a small proportion of patients, mechanical ventilation fails to provide adequate oxygenation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is needed. The surviving individuals need long-term follow-up as it is not clear what their prognosis is.

Background: Patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) are at increased risk of severe course of COVID-19. Vaccination remains to be the most effective prevention of complicated courses of infection. The best contemporary conservative treatment of OSA is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.

Exposure to bisphenols is related to negative effects on male reproduction. The bisphenols exposure is associated with several modes of action including negative impact on the blood-testis barrier (BTB) in testes or direct effect on spermatozoa. Bisphenols have been detected in human seminal plasma, but the possible mechanism of seminal transfer of bisphenols is not clear.

Background: For most of the >2000 CFTR gene variants reported, neither the associated disease liability nor the underlying basic defect are known, and yet these are essential for disease prognosis and CFTR-based therapeutics. Here we aimed to characterize two ultra-rare mutations - 1717-2A > G (c.1585-2A > G) and S955P (p.

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS) is a rare multi-system disease with autosomal dominant inheritance and skeletal involvement, resulting mostly in craniofacial dysmorphy with mid-face hypoplasia, dental anomalies, short stature, scoliosis, shortening of the digits and nail beds, acro-osteolysis and osteoporosis. We report the progression of clinical and radiographic findings in five patients with Hajdu-Cheney syndrome from two families. A custom capture array designed to capture exons and adjacent intron sequences of 230 selected genes were used for molecular analyses, and the pathogenic variants identified were confirmed by PCR and Sanger sequencing.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the secondary cytoreductive surgery on survival parameters in women with platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer who undergone secondary cytoreduction following chemotherapy compared to women who recieved chemotherapy alone.
Study Design: In a retrospective study, data were rewieved from women who were diagnosed and treated with ovarian cancer and its primary platinum-sensitive recurrence at the University Hospital Brno in the Czech Republic between November 2009 and March 2016. Out of the total number of 62 patients with recurrence, 30 women underwent cytoreductive surgery plus chemotherapy and 32 were treated with chemotherapy alone.

Background And Aims: Although epidural analgesia is still regarded as the gold standard for labour analgesia due to its efficacy, in cases of contraindication, systemic remifentanil is an alternative. Since the first demonstration of the safety of remifentanil in obstetric analgesia in 1996, this has been repeatedly confirmed for both mother and newborn. The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate recently published studies (up to December 2014) on the analgesic efficacy of remifentanil during labour (as a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) decrease in the first hour by 2 or more).

Methods: Anonymised data on treatment efficacy and safety were consecutively entered into the Czech national database. From 01/09/2008 to 25/10/2011, 671 patients/685 eyes treated with ranibizumab monotherapy were entered in the registry.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a serious, yet preventable and treatable, disease. The success of its treatment relies largely on the proper implementation of recommendations, such as the recently released Global Strategy for Diagnosis, Management, and Prevention of COPD (GOLD 2011, of late December 2011). The primary objective of this study was to examine the extent to which GOLD 2011 is being used correctly among Czech respiratory specialists, in particular with regard to the correct classification of patients.
