Objective: The Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group conducted a retrospective study on the disease course and clinical management of ganglioneuromas.

Background: Ganglioneuromas are rare tumors derived from neural crest cells. Data on these tumors remain limited to case reports and single-institution case series.

An experienced surgeon's take on scapho-lunate diastasis with distal radius fracture: What does this mean? Does this influence functional outcome?

Radiographic evidence of scapho-lunate diastasis associated with a displaced distal radius fracture has been well recognized yet the clinical significance remains in question. If left untreated, will this progress to both radiographic and clinical changes consistent with intercarpal arthritis? Using the accumulated data of over 400 surgically treated distal radius fractures in the ICUC database, 16 cases of untreated scapho-lunate diastasis were followed on an average of 8 years without evidence of progressive functional or radiographic deterioration. In 50% of these cases, incidental findings of similar scapho-lunate diastasis was noted in the opposite uninjured wrist.

Background: Graves' disease is an autoimmune disorder characterised by excessive production of thyroid hormones, which induces increased cellular metabolism in most tissues and increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Integrating Clinical Probability into the Diagnostic Approach to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: An International Working Group Perspective.

When considering the diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), experienced clinicians integrate clinical features that help to differentiate IPF from other fibrosing interstitial lung diseases, thus generating a "pre-test" probability of IPF. The aim of this international working group perspective was to summarize these features using a tabulated approach similar to chest HRCT and histopathologic patterns reported in the international guidelines for the diagnosis of IPF, and to help formally incorporate these clinical likelihoods into diagnostic reasoning to facilitate the diagnosis of IPF. The committee group identified factors that influence the clinical likelihood of a diagnosis of IPF, which was categorized as a pre-test clinical probability of IPF into "high" (70-100%), "intermediate" (30-70%), or "low" (0-30%).

Direct Oral Anticoagulants for the Treatment of Cancer-Associated Venous Thromboembolism: A Latin American Perspective.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with cancer. On the basis of results from randomized controlled trials, direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are now recommended for the treatment of cancer-associated VTE. The decision to use a DOAC requires consideration of bleeding risk, particularly in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies, the cost-benefit and convenience of oral therapy, and patient preference.

Effectiveness of Nail Dynamization in Delayed Union of Tibial Shaft Fractures: Relationship Between Fracture Morphology, Callus Diameter, and Union Rates.

Objective: Dynamization has already been described as a secondary intervention for delay unions of tibial shaft fractures treated with intramedullary nailing. Although it's a common procedure, it is not widely supported in the literature. The purpose of this study was to determine the union rate of nail dynamization in cases of delayed union of diaphyseal tibial fractures, and assess the effect of fracture morphology on union rates.

"A story with gaps": An interpretative phenomenological analysis of ICU survivors' experience.

ICU survivors may experience various long-term sequelae, recognized as Post-Intensive Care Syndrome, that includes psychiatric symptoms: anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorders symptoms (PTSD). While it was hypothesized that an ICU diary could help patients after discharge, improving their hospitalization memories and quality of life, it is unclear whether it may reduce psychiatric disorders, in particular PTSD. We performed a qualitative exploration of survivors' subjective experience of their ICU stay, their representations, memories, meaning-making of their experience and use of their ICU diary.

Histamine H4 Receptor Expression in Triple-negative Breast Cancer: An Exploratory Study.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive breast cancer subtype. There are neither universally accepted prognostic markers nor molecular targets related to TNBC. The histamine H4 receptor (H4R) has been characterized in TNBC experimental models, demonstrating its critical role in tumor development and progression.

Distal articular involvement in tibial shaft fractures: an evaluation of 125 consecutive cases.

Purpose: To report the incidence and morphology of ipsilateral distal articular involvement (DAI) in a consecutive series of tibial shaft fractures.

Method: A retrospective review was performed on 115 patients who underwent intramedullary nailing for tibia shaft fractures. Ankle evaluations included preoperative radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans in all patients.

Outcomes of surgical treatment for isolated adrenal metastasis from non-small cell lung cancer.

Objective: Long-term survival of patients who undergo surgical resection of isolated adrenal metastasis instead of nonsurgical treatment has shown higher values than those described for stage IVA. The primary endpoint was to evaluate overall survival (OS) of patients with single adrenal metastasis from non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), who underwent surgical treatment. The secondary endpoint was to evaluate and compare the OS and disease-free survival (DFS) according to: pathological lung tumour size, histology, lymph node involvement, type of metastasis at the time of diagnosis and laterality of the metastasis according to the primary lung tumour.

Background: Hip fractures have a significant impact on morbidity and mortality in the elderly. : We retrospectively evaluated the predictive role of the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) for 1-year mortality in elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric hip fractures (ITHF) treated with bipolar hemiarthroplasty. The secondary objective was to identify other relationships, if any, between the variables recorded and mortality.

: The first objective of this retrospective study was to assess infection control rates in patients with chronic post-traumatic osteomyelitis (CPTO) of the femur or tibia treated with antibiotic cement-coated nails. The second objective was to compare the efficacy of custom-made nails versus commercially available antibiotic-coated nails in terms of infection control and need for reoperation. : We reviewed a consecutive series of CPTO patients treated with antibiotic-coated nails who had a minimum follow-up of 24 months.

Real-world evaluation of molecular testing and treatment patterns for EGFR mutations in non-small cell lung cancer in Latin America.

Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Latin America, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) being the most prevalent. The current study aimed to report real-world data on epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutational testing and treatment regimens at diagnosis and progression in patients with metastatic NSCLC across four Latin American countries (Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay). A retrospective, multicenter, observational study was conducted in patients with NSCLC using medical records from participating countries.

Work productivity and activity impairment in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome.

Objectives: In this observational, analytical, cross-sectional study we aimed to describe the impact of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) on work productivity and activities of daily living (ADL) to assess the association between ADL impairment and clinical manifestations and to compare ADL impairment according to patients' socioeconomic condition.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with pSS attending 11 centres from Argentina were included. To evaluate work productivity and ADL impairment, a work productivity and activity impairment questionnaire (WPAI) was used.

Introduction And Objectives: In 1999, a population-based survey showed a 5.6 % (102/1832) prevalence of HCV infection in O'Brien, a small rural town of Argentina. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of screening, clinical evaluation and antiviral therapy on elimination of HCV after 20 years of follow-up.

Structural Allograft and Induced Membrane Technique for Treatment of 10-cm Segmental Femoral Bone Defect: A Case Report.

Case: A modified induced membrane technique for the treatment of a posttraumatic 10-cm infected segmental femoral defect is reported. The first stage involved debridement and insertion of an antibiotic cement spacer and 2 Ender nails. Reconstruction was performed with a 14-cm structural bone allograft, inverted and telescoped into both ends of the remaining host femur, and stabilized with an interlocking nail.

Patients/participants: Two hundred seventy-one patients with displaced distal radius fractures undergoing surgical management were reviewed to determine the incidence of ulnar head subluxation or dislocation using the Mino criteria defined by Mino et al.

Masquelet technique in post-traumatic infected femoral and tibial segmental bone defects. Union and reoperation rates with high proportions (up to 64%) of allograft in the second stage.

Introduction The aim of this study was to describe union, reoperation and failure rates after using the induced membrane (IM) technique with ≥50% allograft over autograft to treat infected femoral and tibial segmental bone defects (SBD). Materials and methods We retrospectively analyzed patients with femoral and tibial SBD treated in our center between 2012 and 2019 using ≥50% allograft over autograft during the second stage of the Masquelet technique. We analyzed the affected bone, defect size, osteosynthesis technique used, time elapsed between the first and second stage of the technique, graft proportions, union time, reoperations, and non-union rates.
