Provisional stenting has become the default technique for the treatment of most coronary bifurcation lesions. However, the side branch (SB) can become compromised after main vessel (MV) stenting and restoring SB patency can be difficult in challenging anatomies. Angiographic and intracoronary imaging criteria can predict the risk of side branch closure and may encourage use of side branch protection strategies.

Objective: There is growing evidence that childhood malnutrition is associated with non-communicable diseases (NCD) in adulthood and that body composition mediates some of this association. This review aims to determine if childhood body composition can be used to predict later-life cardiometabolic NCD and which measures of body composition predicts future NCD.
Design: Electronic databases were searched for articles where: children aged under 5 years had body composition measured; cardiometabolic health outcomes were measured a minimum of 10 years later.

As people age they are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Understanding cardiovascular ageing is essential to preserving healthy ageing and preventing serious health outcomes. This collection of papers published in Age and Ageing since 2011 cover key themes in cardiovascular ageing, with a separate collection on stroke and atrial fibrillation planned.

Background: Malnutrition is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children aged <5 y, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Unlike severe acute malnutrition, moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) affects greater numbers globally, and guidelines lack a robust evidence base. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the evidence for lipid-based nutrient supplements (LNSs), fortified blended flours (FBFs) and nutrition counselling, in the treatment of MAM.

This paper links Heat Shock Protein Hsp90 as an evolutionary capacitator with the development of cancer. Hsp90 stabilises proteins associated with cancer in a number of ways. Canalisation allows for the accumulation of malignant mutations in the genome, and selection of beneficial phenotypes when cancer cells are stressed, allowing oncogenic development and progression.

Intraoperative hypotension is associated with adverse outcomes. Although a causal relationship is yet to be fully established, proactive management of vulnerable patients and use of bispectral index monitoring is recommended to avoid deep anaesthesia.

Context: Palliative care remains suboptimal in end-stage liver disease (ESLD).
Objectives: We report qualitative outcomes from the REDUCe study. We aimed to explore and contrast experiences/perceptions/care pathways of patients with refractory ascites due to ESLD randomized to either palliative long-term abdominal drains (LTADs) (allow home drainage) vs.

Objective: To report the results of the Alopecia Areata Consensus of Experts international expert opinion on diagnosis and laboratory evaluation for alopecia areata.
Methods: Fifty hair experts from 5 continents were invited to participate in a 3-round Delphi process.

Background: People living with HIV experience burdensome multidimensional symptoms and concerns requiring person-centred care. Routine use of patient reported outcome measures can improve outcomes. There is no brief patient reported outcome measure (PROM) that currently reflects the breadth of concerns for people living with HIV.

Introduction: Current evidence supports nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) weaning. Heated humidified high-flow nasal cannula (HHFNC) reduces NCPAP time in infants less than 28 weeks gestational age (GA) without increasing morbidity. The aim of the study was to compare the two most frequently used HHFNC devices in weaning from NCPAP.

Background: Fabry disease (FD) is a genetic disorder caused by defective α-galactosidase-A enzyme due to mutations in the GLA gene. A reliable diagnosis in classical FD males can be made by measuring the enzyme activity while diagnosing classical FD females and non-classical FD patients requires mutation analysis. Plasma globotriaosylsphingosine (Lyso-Gb) has progressively gained more importance as a diagnostic biomarker for FD in recent years.

Objective: Orthostatic hypotension (OH) has a significant association with cardiovascular disease. OH becomes more common in older age, as does arterial stiffness, shown to be independently associated with impaired baroreflex sensitivity and OH. Measurement of arterial compliance and central blood pressures are increasingly important, with evidence that central BP more closely correlates to end-organ damage and mortality than peripheral measurements.

Background: Childhood abuse is a risk factor for poorer illness course in bipolar disorder, but the reasons why are unclear. Trait-like features such as affective instability and impulsivity could be part of the explanation. We aimed to examine whether childhood abuse was associated with clinical features of bipolar disorder, and whether associations were mediated by affective instability or impulsivity.

Objective: Technology-based approaches to distribute HIV self-tests (HIVST) have the potential to increase access to HIV testing in key populations. We evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of using vending machines (VMs) in a community setting to distribute HIVST to men who have sex with men at high-risk of HIV.
Methods: First, a predevelopment survey of targeted potential users explored attitudes towards HIVST and the use of a VM to deliver HIVST.

Accurately monitoring peri-operative core temperature is a cornerstone of good practice. Relatively invasive devices such as oesophageal temperature probes and pulmonary artery catheters facilitate this, but are inappropriate for many patients. There remains a need for accurate monitors of core temperature that can be used in awake patients.

Background: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rapidly progressive fatal neurodegenerative disorder. We report an unusual case of pathologically confirmed sporadic CJD developing in a HIV-positive patient but presenting with clinical and radiological features suggestive of variant CJD.
Case Presentation: A 63-year-old man with chronic stable HIV developed progressive difficulties with decision-making, obsessive compulsive disorder and visual hallucinations over 3 months.
