New evidence suggests that patients receiving epoetin and achieving higher hemoglobin have a higher risk of death and cardiovascular complications. Data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services demonstrate upward spiraling costs of injectables, especially epoetin, in the care of CKD patients.
