Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a major public health concern worldwide, associated with high risk of mortality and morbidity related to cardiovascular and adverse limb events. Despite significant advances in both medical and interventional therapies, PAD often remains under-diagnosed, and the prognosis of patients can be difficult to predict. Artificial intelligence (AI) has brought a wide range of opportunities to improve the management of cardiovascular diseases, from advanced imaging analysis to machine-learning (ML)-based predictive models, and medical data management using natural language processing (NLP).

National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) UMRS-976 HIPI, Paris Cité University, Saint-Louis Hospital, 75010, Paris, France.

Endotypes are characterized by the immunological, inflammatory, metabolic, and remodelling pathways that explain the mechanisms underlying the clinical presentation (phenotype) of a disease. Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a severe blistering disease caused by COL7A1 pathogenic variants. Although underscored by animal studies, the endotypes of human RDEB are poorly understood.

  • Assessing ocean biodiversity is challenging, with limited global indicators highlighting overfishing as a major threat, impacting shark and ray populations.
  • Analysis of 1199 species shows their populations have declined by 50% since 1970, with a 19% increase in extinction risk, particularly in regions with high coastal human populations.
  • Sustainable fishing practices and restrictions on threatened species can help prevent further biodiversity loss and maintain ecological balance in marine environments.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the effectiveness of uterine artery embolization (UAE) with gelatin foam to manage delayed bleeding caused by vascularized retained products of conception (vRPOC) after abortion or miscarriage during a 5-year period at 11 French hospitals.
  • Out of 224 patients evaluated, 94.2% experienced clinical success, although 7.3% showed persistent vRPOC at imaging follow-ups, with some minor and major complications reported.
  • The results suggest that while UAE with gelatin foam is generally safe and effective, certain factors like having a hypertrophic uterine artery and using gelatin foam torpedoes may increase the risk of persistent bleeding issues.

The aim of our study was to analyze the potential survival benefit associated with HSCT according to clinico-biological scores which incorporate molecular data (MIPSS70 and MIPSS70+V2) to facilitate decision-making in this context. One transplant (n=241) and one non-transplant cohorts (n=239) were used to test the hypothesis that PMF patients with higher risk molecular score benefit from HSCT. A weighted propensity score was applied to balance confounding factors with the transplanted cohort as reference.

Article Synopsis
  • PCSK9 is crucial for regulating LDL-cholesterol and certain variants, like p.Ser127Arg, lead to higher cholesterol levels and are mainly found in France, with few in South Africa and Norway due to a common ancestor effect.
  • The study analyzed 14 p.Ser127Arg carriers from eight families and compared them with other variants to understand their genetic background and health impact.
  • Results indicated that the common ancestor lived about 775 years ago, and carriers of p.Ser127Arg had significantly higher LDL-C levels, suggesting it may have a stronger effect on cholesterol levels compared to other mutations.

The MTOR inhibitors have demonstrated antiviral properties, and prior non-randomized studies have suggested they may have a suppressive effect on BKPyV replication. Here, in this randomized, multicenter, controlled trial (BKEVER study), we sought to evaluate the impact of everolimus (EVR) in facilitating the clearance of BKPyV compared to simply reducing immunosuppression among kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). All together, 130 KTRs presenting with BKPyV DNAemia were randomized 1:1 into two groups.
