Background: Programmed death-1 (PD-1) antibodies and BRAF + MEK inhibitors are widely used for adjuvant therapy of fully resected high-risk melanoma. Little is known about treatment efficacy outside of phase III trials. This real-world study reports on clinical outcomes of modern adjuvant melanoma treatment in specialized skin cancer centers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Purpose: Cavernous sinus dural arterio-venous malformations (dAVF) represent a pathologic connection between branches of the internal and/or external carotid artery and the cavernous sinus. Standard endovascular approaches for dAVF treatment are transvenous embolization through the inferior petrosal sinus or the facial vein and transarterial embolization. These approaches are not always successful or feasible, and alternative techniques are required.

Background: RESP score and PRESERVE score have been validated for veno-venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in severe ARDS to assume individual mortality risk. ARDS patients with low-flow Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal, especially pumpless Extracorporeal Lung Assist, have also a high mortality rate, but there are no validated specific or general outcome scores. This retrospective study tested whether these established specific risk scores can be validated for pumpless Extracorporeal Lung Assist in ARDS patients in comparison to a general organ dysfunction score, the SOFA score.

Background: Vasospasm, delayed ischemic neurologic deficit (DIND), and ischemic brain lesions after acute subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this study was to analyze age cutoffs for vasospasm, DIND, and ischemic brain lesions after SAH.
Methods: This study included 292 aneurysmal SAH patients from January 2005 to December 2015.

Introduction: Regarding pediatric diabetes, hospital admission for acute complications of type 1 diabetes (T1D) has often been investigated, but little is known about other causes of hospitalization. This study aimed to explore the total burden of hospitalization in individuals with diabetes<20 years of age in Germany.
Methods: Using the German Diagnosis-Related Groups data for 2015, we examined the frequencies of hospitalization with diabetes (20 251 inpatient cases), stratified by diabetes type [T1D, type 2 diabetes (T2D), other specified diabetes types (T3D), and unclear diabetes], and without diabetes (1 269 631 inpatient cases).

Objective: Cardiopulmonary complications/stress are well-known phenomena in patients after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) and might be associated with an elevated serum troponin I (TNI) level. Since the glucocorticoid hormone cortisol is released during stress situations, the present study was conducted to investigate the influence of serum cortisol (SC) on cardiac and pulmonary parameters in patients after aSAH within the first 24 hours of intensive care unit (ICU) treatment.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 104 patients with aSAH admitted to our emergency department between January 2008 and April 2017.

Background: Insertion of a frontal external ventricular drain (EVD) is a common emergency procedure in neurosurgery. Malpositioning of the EVD and/or triggering a new intracerebral or intraventricular hemorrhage (nICVH) are typical complications. The standard procedure (SP) uses a tape measure to identify the Kocher's point for placement of a frontal burr hole.

Objective: The elevation of serum cardiac troponin I (TNI) in patients with nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (ntSAH) is a well-known phenomenon. However, the relation between elevated TNI and different cardiopulmonary parameters (CPs) within the first 24 hours after ntSAH is unknown. The present study was conducted to investigate the association between TNI and different CP in patients with ntSAH within the first 24 hours of intensive care unit (ICU) treatment.

Objectives: To investigate the frequency of coeliac disease (CD)-specific human leucocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes in paediatric patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D), who are known to have a higher prevalence of CD than the general population, and to evaluate whether HLA genotyping is a suitable first-line screening method for CD.
Study Design: The study was a multicentre observational analysis of patients with T1D aged <20 years of whom a subgroup had undergone HLA genotyping. Patient data were retrieved from the Diabetes Prospective Follow-up database, a large diabetes follow-up registry.

Background: To investigate changes in diabetes treatment over the last two decades in three age-groups of children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) from Germany and Austria.
Methods: 63,967 subjects (<18yr) with T1D documented between 1995 and 2014 from the DPV-database were included and stratified according to age (0.5-<6, 6-<12, 12-<18yr).

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to characterize the phenotype and treatment of young patients (manifestation <30 years) with diabetes of mitochondrial origin (DMO), based on the German/Austrian DPV (Diabetes Patienten Verlaufsdokumentation) registry. Only 13 (0.02 %) of all patients with diabetes in this cohort were identified with DMO, mainly due to the Kearns-Sayre (n = 5), Pearson (n = 3), or mitochondrial myopathy, encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes (MELAS) syndrome (n = 2).

Objective: To investigate whether celiac disease (CD) associated with type 1 diabetes increases the risk of microvascular complications.
Research Design And Methods: Patients (n = 56,514) aged >10 years with diabetes duration <20 years from 392 centers in Germany and Austria were assigned to one of three categories (n): no CD (50,933), biopsy-confirmed CD (812), or suspected CD (4,769; clinical diagnosis or positive antibodies). The confirmed and suspected groups were combined and analyzed for retinopathy or nephropathy.

Background: Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is a rare life-threatening autoimmune bullous disorder. The clinical picture is often polymorphous and blisters may be absent. Autoantibodies are directed against several target antigens, including plakins and desmogleins.
